We would appreciate some feedback in regards to the best time in regards to weather and abundance of whales out of Bar Harbor, Maine this summer. We are planning on late May into June. Will do clam bake on Cabbage Island.

We were there in early August last year and had great weather and saw plenty of whales . It does get much colder out on the boat, so pick a nice day.

i am always surprised how many and how close we come to whales on our trips. I was afraid it was going to be one of those "see that grey little speck out there" thats your whale and it never has been. Enjoy and it is a little cool all year in Maine.. remember a jacket!

I have been outside of Maui in Hawaii on a friends fishing boat. The humpbacks come in the winter months. They came right up next to the boat. Those things are HUGE and were much bigger than the boat we were on. When we had a chance we started up and moved away to give them space. I think it is illegal to go to the whales too close and there is a distance limit. They swam to us so we had no choice. They were about 20 ft. away. I felt like I was almost looking right at Moby Dick.

Their eyes are as huge as a grapefruit. They just slowly came right up next to us and looked at us as much as we looked at them. I think they are a lot smarter than we give them credit for, and we are dumber than we think we are.
