'05 Diplomat. Coach was aligned by a quality house several thousand miles back and brought to spec. New Goodyears on front a few thousand ago. Coach pulled more and more to the left as time and miles went by. (A slight pull...we're not talking cross-the-middle- line-arm-breaking here.) Just took the coach to another quality house for alignment...the report was "dead nuts" no need for change.
They did, however, rotate the front tires across and now I have a very slight pull to the right. Go figure.

Out of the NASCAR playbook, how about running different tire pressures in the right and left to correct this deficiency? Slight as it is, I just can't stand it. I'm sure getting rid of the Goodyears would be a start, but I hate to give up the miles that are still left in the tires...not near "date out" either.

Hankooks on the rear and I do not wish to start swapping around those as a solution.

Anybody tried this? Does it work? Thanks, Don Parrish

Don,
It is not a good practice. I am positive you have tires from different batches, ck DOT #s, and this slight difference in age and rubber compound is the cause of your pull. If the DOTs are the same then redistribute your load to equalize the corner weights. I have met a lot of people in the industry that would use tire pressure to get a problem car off of their hands but it is not a technique that I would use on my own vehicle.

Do you have a tire balancing tire inflation system that ties the two front tires together to insure that they are both inflated to the exact same pressure?

rgatijnet1,

No. If you would suggest that the tires are not equal in pressure to begin with, bear in mind the "pull" has now moved to the right side after a long term pull to the left. Over the previous time, I'm certain the tires were of equal pressure. Even if different, the pull was always to the left. Don

I think your problem is one tire has a tread problem due to the fact the problem followed your switching tires from side to side. Can you jack up the front end and spin the tires by hand and observe how the tread appears, using some kind of a straight edge as a reference? Crooked treads do happen and there is no cure except a new tire. Just a thought, I am not a tire expert but has seen it happen

From "Tire Tech Information/General Tire Information"

Step 1
Action to be Taken
Rotate the two front tires from side-to-side. Directional tires can be moved from side-to-side for testing purposes. The short time that they are on the vehicle backwards will not harm the tire.
Results

1. If the vehicle pulls in the opposite direction, the defective tire is one of the front tires. (GO TO STEP 2)
2. If the vehicle pulls in the same direction the problem is either with one of the rear tires or is not a tire-related problem. (GO TO STEP 3)

Step 2
Action to be Taken
Rotate the front tire on the side of the car that is in the direction of the pull, to the rear of the car.
Results

1. If the pull no longer exists or diminishes greatly, the tire that was moved to the rear of the car is the defective tire.
2. If the pulling does not change, the defective tire is isolated to the front tire that was not moved in Step 2.

I had the same problem with the front end wanting to wonder got rid of the goodyear tire and put on double coin tries and the problem was solved. I have had the double coin tires on for 10k miles and still no wondering.

Probably not related but have you weighed the axles and did you weight each side of each axle individually. Since the change from left to right moved the condition, I would move two of the hankooks up front and see if the problem goes away and if so, I would try to sell the Goodyears and put two new hankooks on the front. (could also sell just one of the Goodyears and keep the other for an unmounted spare) Or, just give up on the Goodyears and replace them with new Hankooks without all the changes.

Check the circumference of each of the front tires. You may well find that they are not the same size. If that is the case no matter what you do you will always be chasing the wander. It does not take much difference (less than 1/2 inch) to cause your problem.
