Our first trip last year we stayed at Fort Wilderness for a month. It was really nice! This time around we plan to split our trip, and stay near the Gulf or Atlantic, and Lake Okeechobee. Some things we would like; beach, full RV hook-up, possibly some hiking. I always had a think for really nice rivers that you can swim in, but a beach would suffice. We will be down there December and January, and as long as the water is 50 degrees or warmer its fine. Price does not matter too much, I suppose not passing $40 a day would be nice.
We are hitching our jeep this time around as well. I am surprised we will be able to hitch a jeep on a super C, but the mount is being made.
So far we have heard good things about these places.
Fort De Soto Park - Near the gulf/Clear Water
Silver Palms RV Village - Near lake Okeechobee
Any input on these places, or possibly other suggestions would be great! Aside from the Disney area, we really do not know Florida.
Fort Desoto might already be booked, but worth checking. Nice wooded very "Florida" park. Don't think they have sewer hookup. Rainbow Springs State Park Dunnellon has sewer hookups. River to canoe. Don't think they have swimming right at the RV park but they do have a spring you can drive to. Check to make sure it's open. Very beautiful area. Silver River State Park in Ocala is also nice. Has a river. Not sure about swimming though. Check to see if they have sewer hookups. Check around Fort Myers or Port Charlotte on www.rvparkreviews.com

Rainbow springs has full hook ups and a swimming area at the CG near the tubing "put in" point. Silver River has no swimming and is W&E only. Check out Salt Spgs Rec area for one of the gems of Florida camping.
Here's another good place near Lake Okechobee: http://www.fisheatingcreekoutpost.com/ however I would NOT recommend it on a holiday weekend. The last time I camped there over a major holiday the managers allowed more people in than it was designed for and did not monitor for rules violations (gunshots in the middle of the night, swamp buggies, hootin' and hollerin' into the wee hours). All that being said I would still go there in the middle of the week. Very little light pollution so great star gazing. Good paddling on the creek.

Don't tell the Snowbirds about the alligators. They have a right to eat too. In all seriouness any body of water in Fl. may have hungery gators. Have even seen 7ft.ers in swimming pools 1/2 mile from any river or lake.
