My family and I just went out full time and it's our second week camping. We're in Myrtle Beach and are heading south to FL. We're looking for a nice campground that is moderately price and has some natural stuff to explore, but also allows us to take a day trip to Savannah. We were going to try skidaway island but it's booked on Thursday. Any suggestions?

Depending on your definition of day trip you might look into Hunting Island State Park near Hilton Head. Fort McAllister (GA) state park is also near Savannah. If you like state parks for camping, both are good.

Ft McCallister SP is very nice. It is heavily wooded and the fort is nicely preserved

Try KOA south of Richmond Hill, Ga. right on I-95, you can be in town in 15minutes.

I'll second Ft. McAlister St. Park in Richmond Hill. We stayed there last Christmas, and it's very nice. The fort is great to tour. If the kids are old enough, the James Island County Park Christmas light show is one of the top 10 in the country. Their campground is fabulous too. If you just a spot for the one night on the way down to Savannah if would be a perfect stop.

I'll second Fort McAllister since Skidaway is booked. With the warm weather, the bugs may be a problem, but if not it's a very nice place.

If Skidaway is just booked Thrusday and you can delay you arrival, see if you can get into James Island County Park for a night or two. They have a wonderful Christmas light display going on which is included in the normal campground fee. It is just across the street so easy to walk from your camper to the main section of the entertainment.

Or, swing up 378 and over to Congaree National Park. Dry camping but it is free. Just a parking lot, but if it's empty (usual) easy to swing around, if not back in to the lot of the road. Nice nature center, boardwalk, and miles of trails.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
