There is a wealth of information and some great tips. I had a clunk in the drivetrain and after some reading I was able to comletely cure the problem with 30 minutes under the truuck and a $7 tube of Ford teflon lube.

We bought a new '91 Miata. A month after the warranty ran out, the radio quit. Took it to the dealer and they charged $55 to tell me the radio didn't work and a new one would be $600. I found the fix for the radio on the internet and it cost me 75 cents for a piece of 18 ga solid t'stat wire.

Thats the stuff that irritates me right there! They would have had a hell of a time gettin the 55 dollars out of me. Rediculous.

I agree with the limited slip locking up. Make sure you let us know what it was or if the fluid change and additive helped.

Ofcourse. That's part of the deal if you ask something and are being helped on a forum, in my opinion.

Patience, please. The truck is in the shop for a whole list of things that need to be fixed. I'll let you know as soon as I'm getting it back.

While we are on the subject of limited slip differentials---
Just in case you didnt know---

I have a 1999 F-350 Dually, 4X4, DANA 80.

The first year I had it I wanted to drive up the front [grassey] lawn of my house to park my truck under a tree to put some wax on the paint,[wanted shade].
There was a steep incline and only one side of the rear wheels were spinning [ not all four tires]. I was told by the dealer when I bought the truck that I had limited slip. I was ready to take the truck back to the dealer because there HAD to be something wrong with the truck. Before I did, I read that if you have limited slip diff. and only one side of the truck drives, apply your brakes while giving the engine fuel, that puts resistance on the diff. and then both sides will engage, [all four tires in the rear].

To be honest: this sounds more like limitLESS slip to me.

As for the shaking: I'm still wondering if it really is a problem, because:

* I've driven a Land Rover Freelander before, as a replacement vehicle while mine was being serviced. This suv has a gel limited slip central diff (permanent 4x4) and it did exactly the same thing when turning a tight corner at slow speed.
* If I drive the truck in a circle on gravel, none of the wheels are dragging or spinning too fast. (is that even correct English?) To me that means that the differential is working correctly.
* What I'm talking about is very light shaking. If I wouldn't point it out to passengers, most of them would never have noticed.

What I do think is that I feel it slightly starting to lock up when turning, which means that it simply starts doing its job as the inner wheel speed is dropping over the outer speed. And I think that adding an additive will only reduce or stop it from working. But to repeat: that's only what I think... (and I'm far from pro)

But to be sure, I've informed the technician that's currently working on the truck, so he can have a look for himself if there's something wrong with it.

I'll keep you informed. (should be by the end of next week - FINALLY)

I've been watching this thread with interest because we had a similar problem with our 2009 F450. We got a shaking , kind of like driving over a rumble strip, after we'd driven for awhile at speeds of 45+ mph and then made a turn at slow speeds. We took it to a dealer about a week ago. The mechanic drove it around the shop , diagnosed the problem as being in the rear end and added friction modifier. We thought that we might have a major problem but $9.35 seems to have fixed it.

Rule of thumb for diagnosis. If you feel it the steering wheel, it's in the front end. If you feel it in the seat of your pants, it's in the rear.

This applies to suspension, shocks, tires, etc. Just FYI.
