We have been trying to get to Joshua tree for years. Probably made at least 5 reservations that we had to cancel for one reason or another. Sometime in the next few weeks, I plan to drive the 3 hours on a Saturday, check it out and spend the night, driving back on Sunday. I was either going to spend the night in Black Rock or the BLM area off of 62 and Cascade Rd. So should I drive down the 10 and come up from Cottonwood Springs? Then drive thru the park to 62 and over to the campground or boondock site? We will have our little dog with us and will do a little sightseeing leaving the dog in the MH. It's just a test run with the cabover window reinstalled and a quick getaway, nothing fancy.
If I go in from the 62, I will have to back track to the campgrounds or stay at the BLM just south of Cottonwood. Any suggestions?

2oldman-that one south of Cottonwood is the one I'm refering too. But I prefer to camp on the north side as It's closer to stores and fuel. Plus quicker getting home from there as I won't have to drive thru PS.

Joshua Tree is a small town. Joshua Tree National Park is a different place. So just which are you asking about?

Dave,
For what you want to do, I'd enter on Cottonwood Springs Rd. off the 10. That will take you through the whole park and lets you out near the Nothern BLM area. It also give you a chance to check out the Southern BLM area for possible use in the future. BTW, there is food and fuel about 4 miles East of Cottonwood Rd. at Chiriaco Summit.
Have fun!

Nope. We're desert rats now.

All packed up to leave this morning. Wind started to pick up shortly after dawn and we decided to cancel another trip to Joshua Tree. Glad we did, as the wind is getting worse and that stretch near Banning and Palm Springs has those wind turbines there for a reason.

That's too bad....you would have enjoyed it. Don't give up. We've been there three different times in January and have never experienced any bad winds or weather. Sometimes it's even in the 70's!
However, one year there was still snow on the ground, and there was enough to make snowballs. DS nailed DH with a fairly good sized one .
