Just recently purchased a 2004 Chevy 2500HD. Was trying to extend the tow mirrors but only the dirver side extend. Either I am not operating them properly or something is wrong with the passenger side.
To extend them I put the mirror selection switch in the middle position and then press the left arrow on the adjustment switch. At that time only the driver side extends. When I press the right arrow the driver side retarcts. Can someone let me know if there is something else I need to do to get the passenger side to extend or is there something that has malfunctioned? If something has malfunctioned, has anyone seen this and any suggestions on what could be the cause?
Thanks

Spend $183 on some Amp towing mirrors on Ebay and throw those away.

Thanks for the tips but hoping to fix it myself. I have determined that the motor runs but does not extend. I have removed the mirror from the truck and I was going to try to remove the rubber cover and plug it back in and try to see if I can see were it is failing. Anyone ever had on of these apart? Any suggestions on how to disassemble the mirror?
Thanks

Mine do the same thing. Just be sure to pop the dust cover off and lubricate the drive gear every once in awhile.

Thanks r4wheel. How did you go about doing this. Are the gears behind the mirror or between the mirror and mount plate?

APT, it sounds like you do not like the original mirrors, if that so why do you like the aftermarkets better?
Thanks

My did the same thing and it was the right side of the truck to,and I just bought the OEM manual extending ones. Because it was only a matter of time that the other one did the same thing, and I would be right back into changing that one out to. I like to know that I can just slide them out anytime I need to,instead of them not working the one day I really need them to move under there own power.

When I get 1 that don't go out, I fold it back and forth and then it works again for the next 6 months. Mirrors are ok but If one died I would replace with something like what is coming on the new trucks. I like a bigger mirror vertical and the smaller convex. Randu

The more I look around I think I'm going to replace them. Like Randu, I also like the looks of the vertical with small convex mounted below. Seen them one ebay power, heated, with signals for 229 free shipping.
Thanks for all your help
