I have a 2004 40ft phaeton with 4 slides. It has a queen mattress in it now. I am thinking about changing to a king mattress. I think it would not be a huge job. I would have to remove the little cabinet to the left of the bed just below the window and add some support under that left side of the bed above the engine. I would fix that support so I could slide it around and remove it when I need to get into the top of the engine. Anyone done this? Any constructive suggestions?
Thanks\

I have replaced a queen size mattress in a MH with no problem. But considering the size of a king size mattress, I think that I would look at the sleep number mattress or some other brand of air mattress it would be easy to get into the coach.
If it fits and you have the room, then go for it. I re-built our 5er's bedframe some years ago, from a Short-Queen to a Full Size Queen. I bought a Custom Made Full Size Queen Mattress. ( a little over 100 lbs ) It was an all in one type, the Box Spring and Mattress was a one peice. Glade I measured before I bought it to see if I could get it in, as there is no give in a one peice. I still had to strip the inside of the 5er to get it in. I had to remove the Entry Door & Screen Door. I had to remove the Bathroom Door Handle. I had to remove the Celing Smoke Detector, Lights, and the CO Detector. And even when this all was done, it was still quite a job to get it in. It will never be able to be removed. It went in that tight, as it was forced in with Plastic Sheeting to protect the Walls and the Celing. But it sure was worth it in the end. Go for it if it fits. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill
Also, make sure that the mattress will fit when the two bedroom slides are closed. I don't know how the slide out is designed in your coach but it could be that the mattress fits in between the slide out box walls when closed (ours does).
We switched to a new King size mattress that was about 3 inches wider than our previous 'piece-of-junk-sleep-number' king mattress and our new mattress barely fits in the width of the dresser slide out box. It's nice having a REAL mattress to sleep on.

Depending on how your bedroom slide out is you may have to watch the length of the new mattress. When we changed ours from Queen to King length was our problem so we had to order a 80" long mattress.
