Probably the electric motor driven shifter on your fron axel is bad. Happened to my Dodge. Simple changeout. Maybe $100 ?

I have heard of one repair method that makes it bullet proof. Mudders and off roaders put a stick up thru the floor and shift manually. No more problems.

Might be a bad dash switch, easy to replace and not too expensive. There are rebuild services for the switch also. I took mine out on my 98 Yukon, cleaned it and reinstalled, been working a couple years now since I did that.

Warn or a company called posi-lok or equal, has a wire manual off-on way to by pass the solenoid which does cause issues upon occasion. Gives you the option of a 2lo!

It's NOT the transmission that is the issue as said many times over!

I had a 2002 D/A with the same problem, but I cant remember whether the switch light blinked at me. My issue was a blown fuse---worth the trouble to check.

The solution -

The right front was not locking up when put into 4X4. The wire had rub bare on the frame and caused a short. The motor on the transfer case burnt up. So, repaired the wire, replaced the motor and everything is working again.

I have replaced more of the dash switches than I can count. I think you are on the right track, Jassrnj.

Allison trannys are bullet proof. Must be an issue with the NVG (Chrysler) transfer case.
