I bought a G-Sky 500 mw. USB wifi booster on Ebay, at the recommendation of others on this forum, for $37.00. I absolutely love it! In places where I get 1-2 bars from a single access point, the booster has given me as many as 18 access points, some with 4-5 bars strength.

I use a Hawkins antenna that plugs into my USB port, and once when camping at Morrow bay I used a pair of 6' extension cords to put the antenna on the roof of my motorhome, tied down with wire ties, and inside a 1 gallon plastic baggy!

Being on the roof, and attached to the mostly plastic refrigerator vent cover, it gets much better line of site to the clubhouse, or more likely the tree next to the computer that runs the Wi-Fi system.

Hawkins HWL2 antenna.

I have the PepWave Surf Mini. Many times at campgrounds where I could not pull in the wifi signal the Pepwave saved the day with a strong signal......purchased this through 3GStore.

If you already have a external WiFi adapter with a stub antenna, you can replace that poor antenna with a Yagi antenna for less than $10. The biggest bang for the buck is in the antenna. Nothing beats a Yagi antenna for increasing signal strength. Having bought dozens of these for $37 for people in my RV park, it is a cheap solution to increase the usable distance from the WiFi source.

Does this connect via wire to a laptop usb port or does it connect to the laptop via wireless?

Does it support multiple devices, or would you have to connect it to a router for multiple devices?

Thanks

Fred

the extenders being discussed connect to the PC via USB port

the easiest way to use an Android tablet will be to use a WiFi "repeater"

but all the ones i have seen, need a PC to set them up

my Hawking repeater, required me to connect the PC via LAN cable to setup the repeat function ( connect to the correct wifi signal ) and repeat it

after setup any wifi enabled device can access the "hawking" repeater

IF and when i change locations and want to connect/repeat an external wifi hotspot (access point) I have to do the setup again

its NOT an automatic "plug & play" process

if your going to be in ONE spot for a while, its NICE to have, but you have to connect it to a computer to access the "repeater" setup functions

once its setup just leave it turned on 24/7

Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother
