Call them and tell them you want to confirm an appointment in site so and so. They will say "Yes mr smith, you are confirmed (dont mention a name, just a site).
Wait one day and call and cancel that one/

On top of all the other objections (remember the Golden Rule?), this little flim-flam won't work because you can't reserve a specific site in Texas state parks. They would tell you that when you called, then ask for your name and reservation number.

. This is a common pratice in many states.

What states and how do you know?

I don't know about Texas. When I call RA, I have to have my name, address, phone number----minimum. Maybe reservation number, site number and date---to verify I'm me.

I really doubt a campground would fall for that, and it would be pretty easy where the problem came from.

Really stupid idea from an idiot.

Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

We have our site reserved for Garner SP (Texas) next summer in early August...now would like some friends to join us in their MH...no water and electric sites now available on dates needed, per telephone call and the reservation website (operates through Reserve America)
Anyone have a work-around or other idea to get a second site reserved, other than checking for cancellations ten times a day?

In my experience with Texas State Parks, and especially Garner, you are going about it the only way you can. Garner is in such high demand that if you want reservations for water/electric sites in the summer you need to reserve them when the dates first come open for reservation. Generations of Texans with kids plan their summer vacations at Garner, and reservations are taken quickly.

They have cancellations, but you have to be the lucky guy who gets there on that magic moment before somebody else finds it.

As stated by Major Dad, a person could not do that in a Texas State Park, rockportrocket. Sites are not assigned until you arrive. You only have a reservation for a site within the park and not a specific site.

As others have written, I think your only choice is to check as much as you deem necessary for cancellations.
