ummm the message should not be to leave them at home but not to lie. If they had told the truth and followed the laws of the country they were going thru then that would not have happened. What a thing to teach kids. How to Lie (or not lie in this case)

This is what you get when you lie to the Canadian Border patrol. Had they been thinking at all they could have left all the handguns at home and found out the proper way to declare and bring the shotgun with them.

The other sad part is that as some Canadians have reported, there is a procedure to move handguns across Canada to go to Alaska. As told to me, the handguns are sealed at the border and must be presented in the same condition when crossing back into the USA.

While I do not agree with that law, it is Canadian law and should be respected while within their borders.

Years ago I crossed the border into Canada in my motorhome. The Canadian agent asked me if I had any firearms, I said no. She asked me again, I said no. She asked me a third time, I said no, and she said for me to follow her into the building.

Inside the building, she carefully explained the laws, the penality for failing the disclose any firearms at this time, and the penalty for getting caught after lying. She asked again, and again I said no firearms.

She then went into the motorhome and searched it carefully. Finding nothing, she shook her head in disbelief that she couldn't find my stash of guns and sent me on my way (after telling me one more time about the penality for being caught after leaving the border crossing).

I said thank you, and went on my way.

By the way, I have never owned nor carried any firearms. Ever.

She just couldn't imagine an American not packing heat.

I do feel for those folks, however it's fairly well known in the RV community that you don't take guns into Canada without complying with their laws and submitting the required forms.

WHY 'do you feel for those folks'?
They were asked and lied about having firearms......that is willful intent and should have gotten jail time.

Sounds like they got what they deserved. with that many weapons they may well have been planing on starting a war with Canada or they were expecting one to break out anyway. People that stupid really shouldn't be allowed to have weapons anyway. I'm a licensed carry myself but come on folks, the head is for more than holding your shoulders together. I NEVER feel sorry for those who willfully violate the laws and get caught.

I think they were very lucky that our court system is so screwed up that they didn't get jail time.....

Oops! Mis-spoke, they did get jail time....5 days & the fine. Too little on both accounts.
