Trading in our Class C with 400watt inverter for nice 2012 Gas Class A. Does anyone know why they do not have inverters? I read up on the new chassis with its upgraded alternator to help run motorhome systems. Does this replace the inverter? It is on the F22 Chassis. Thanks

No, an alternator, no matter how powerful (high amp) can not take the place of an inverter.

An alternator produces only 12 VDC.

An inverter takes that battery voltage (12 VDC) and "inverts" it to 120 VAC.

And, sorry, have no idea what an F22 chassis is. F22 fighter plane-- yes.

The alternator can't possibly replace or substitute for an inverter. Totally different function.

Different manufacturers find different ways to cut costs. A small inverter is not an expensive or difficult item to install.

Many rigs have an inverter as an option. Buying off the lot, rigs may not have one just to keep price down and then install as an add on for big bucks.
A good genset and smaller inverters are a good way of going.
What make and model of rig are you looking at?

I may have the chassis info incorrect, I know it is the V 10 with 22k lb chassis. Guess I need to look into the inverter option. Thanks. Ill look up what others have done on installing one.

Perhaps your thinking of a converter? That would convert 120 volts back to 12 volts for shorepower power to your lights and other 12 volt items. Having said that, I have to believe that all RVs have a converter of some size to facilitate the charging of their batteries and providing 12 volt power.
The inverter will take 12 volts from your battery and provide 120 volt to the various items in your RV. Size is determined by the amperage load of the devices you want to power. A 400 watt inverter would be adequate for most TV and satellite systems and perhaps a laptop or printer. To power the larger items, like a microwave, vacuum cleaner, you would need a much larger inverter.
And yes, a lot of motorhomes do not automatically have an inverter but one can be added at a very reasonable cost.

That would likely be the Ford F53 with 22,000 GVWR.

And Ford would not have fit the converter, charger or inverter/charger. That decision would be up to your coach maker.

Ford only chose the alternator-- 130 amp to 175 depending on year.

Having owned 2 gas rigs ('93, '07)niether had an inverter. I installed my own on each. A necessity when dry camping. You can only run the gen set so long w/o going crazy, along w/your neighbors !! Robbie
