Several western-dwelling folks in the past few years have expressed frustration to me on the forum or via PM over not being able to see a Tiger. It's an issue since the Tiger is only available factory-direct, and is made in SC.

I was browsing the factory website for something else, and noticed the following schedule for appearances at RV shows in early 2012:

JANUARY 11-15, 2012 Indio, CA
MARCH 1-4, 2012 Denver, CO
MARCH 8-11, 2012 Tacoma, WA

Dunno if it'll be a CX or a Bengal, but the difference is pretty much just headroom.

Hope some of y'all can take advantage of this. Nope, I don't have any financial interest in Provan, I'm just a happy 6-year owner.

Yep, I was thrilled when I saw it on their web site. I'm only about 60 miles from Tacoma.

That will be the first time in a while anything interesting has shown up at an RV show around here. It seemed to be that dealers were using the shows to unload stuff they couldn't move.

Good for Tiger/Provan.

Yep, you were the first one I thought of when I saw the schedule...

Dak, I haven't been to a show in several years, and never one any bigger than just the local ones. But yes, in that limited experience, they're just one same-same after another. The Tiger will be something different, for sure.

That Bengal sure looks like the ticket for taller types (i.e. I'm 6'2") ... HOWEVER that translates into higher overall permanent vehicle height, too. Part of the name of the game for an off-road off-grid RV is the low center of gravity that comes with low overall coach height.

Now, if only Tiger would offer a hardtop (same durable material as their current coach shell) extendable roof model - for even lower overall traveling height but with the Bengal's interior height when camping - wouldn't that be something!

The closest they've come to that was a small number of Tiger CX's with the same top arrangement as the Astro-based Tiger GT. They had a flat rigid roof with canvas upper sides. The roof could be lowered for travel. There are no upper cabinets, and the bathroom has curtained upper sides. I've only seen pics of one 1995 model:

I don't know if they could sill make one or not.

Thanks for those photos above! That's close to what I was talking about - other than the canvas section - which can make for poor cold weather comfort. I've seen collapsible top PU campers with solid sides, however ... thus providing better insulation.

What your photos show, but with a solid-sided collapsible section, on a modern one-ton 4X4 lockable differential(s) full size diesel or gas PU frame, would be my "ideal" off-road off-grid low-center-of-gravity go-anywhere RV for general North American use. The Tiger CX certainly comes very close right now, IMHO, in affordably achieving this goal ... other than it's not comfortable for a tall person.

What I like most about the Tiger CX concept, over high end modern PU campers, is it's convenient feature-rich full integration with the truck chassis (as in standard motorhomes) combined with the lowest possible center of gravity ... not considering implementation of a collapsible top.

Don't know how much more weight it would entail, but in the TCs 'Alaskan' made a telescopic unit for some years. I don't know if they are still in buis. or not, but they were quite a bit heavier. They also had hydraulic cylinders for operating it up and down.

I've only seen a few TCs and I have never seen one frame mounted as a 'C'.

On a more positive note the "newer" (from the 1980s) Coleman Pop Ups,,, the Sunbrella material was a Lot more than canvas, thermally speaking. The last Viking TC Pop Up, I had, used a similar material to the Sunbrella, and it was way better to heat than the earlier one I had.

I would be comfortable with suggesting Reflectix sp? panels to supplement the thermal barrier in the sleeve area. with hook and loop attachment?

Well it looks like Alaskan is still in buis.,, up in Washington State. No Class C models but they say they will accommodate custom floor plans and even name it as a model for you. Not dirt cheap of course.

Maybe a custom frame mounted, or flatbed mounted, with some 'cutaway cab' mods?

Their standard models seem to be 8 and 10', and a Mini, sold as slide in TCs.

Yeah - the Alaskan telescoping TC is exactly what I had in mind in my post above. My DW's parents had one when we were dating!

IMHO, an Alaskan type setup built right onto a one-chassis 4X4 PU's frame and with larger FW, grey, black, and propane tanks than what any TC could have would be ideal ... plus along with cab/coach access when underway, having the PU's alternator system heavy-cabling-linked into the coach's battery bank ... maybe even with cooking, heating and the generator powered off a diesel PU's main tank(s) instead of needing a propane tank.

IAW, all the "motorhome type" advantages - but narrow, low collapsed height, and with a very low traveling center of gravity and wind profile.
