Passing thru a snow storm, the passenger side wiper stopped working. Seems the nut wasn't tight and the inside striped out. We are in southern AZ near Benson, heading to Tucson later this week. Has anyone had luck getting a wiper arm in this area without having to order and wait two weeks?

Looking at the inside, I can still see the serations and am thinking of filing to make the arm work again... Has any one try to do this? Any success?

Thanks

What kind of coach and size wiper?

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

I can answer for the 98 Dutchstar.
What You need is a New Knurled Driver! These eventually wear out and are easily replaceable.
You can Order them from School Bus Parts on Line, or if there is a School Bus Maintenance Facility in the area ,ask if they have One

The Old Driver just pop's out of the Arm. If it is stuck give a little heat and pry it out with a metal drift or large Screwdriver.

Mine was the 3/8" size. It looks a little like one of those Miniature Peanut Butter Cups! Made of Gold colored White Metal .

WM-4A- 3/8" Knurled Driver for Double Flat Shaft

About $1.00 each ....Be careful tightening those Acorn Nuts or You may also need to order other parts.

Take a good close look at your wiper arm and the driver shaft to see EXACTLY what's causing your problem. Since the wiper arm is castr pot metal, that's what usually strips out. THe shaft is steel and is usually OK. I had this happen a couple of years ago in Florida during a gully washer, and found that I could really torque down on the arm nut, it would work fine on normal speed. I stopped every couple of hours or so and tightened it again, and found that it actually cut new knurled groves in the arm. I ordered a new arm when I got home 3 months later and have been driving around with it in the basement ever since. I do check that the arms are TIGHT every few months or so. And, yes, I'm using the wipers on HIGH whenever I need to.

Just over the hill in Tucson you'll find a large number of RV dealers and a Camping World that may have the arm you need. Besides, you can make it a stop when you visit the Pima Air Museum and the Davis-Monthan AFB bone yard. A great day out.

AM Equipment manufacturers many of the wiper systems for motorhomes. Don't know if they did the 2008 Beaver Contessa. Give them a call and ask - 541.327.1546
