Our first was a 1966 Camperized Ford Econoline van. It would overheat if a hill was in sight. So bought an after market window washer that had a foot pump and I ran a perforated hose across the top of the rad. When ever the needle started up I'd start pumping and the temp would drop.
Covered a lot of miles and a lot of hills with that old thing.

Next was a sailboat. Then a Class "C", now a 5'er

In 1967 our first RV was a 1965 Dodge Camp Wagon (a Dodge van) powered by a 273 V/8. A beautiful two tone white and aqua blue with white wall tires

Behind the driver and passenger seats it featured a sink, stove, a/c d/c refrigerator, a dinette and also an RV style toilet. It had an aluminum pop up top that made standing possible.

It was tight with the two of us and three kids but it slept all of us and made a great traveling vehicle, especially the long trip to Florida in the pre I-75 and I-77 days.

"What was the first RV you owned?"
The literal answer to the original question is the one I own now. See sig. Before that backpacking and car camping were my mode. With my parents I have camped, traveled, RVed, and sailed many many miles in all sorts of rigs but this one is mine. Only took 40 years.

Seems like the VW Bus was popular. I had a 1964 VW Bus with biult in cabinets, a bed, curtains and all. I lived in the van on and off for 3 years in the early 80's in California working construction.

First one we got was our 1967 30' Airstream. Still have it as our only RV and have no plans to replace it.

First "RV" was a "popup" 10 foot long with no bed ends back in the mid 70's. Sink with a 5 gallon tank, no gray water provisions other than a hose to the ground. A dinette that covered to a double bed, and a couch that converted to another. Even had a 120 volt light hanging from the ceiling. Cost $300 and I had to register it as home made as no one could come up with any ID number or manufacturer.
We thought we'd died and gone to heaven. LOL Since before that we'd tented and washed up in a lake. Our first trip was to Niagra Falls with another couple and we were amazed that the campground had flush toilets and even SHOWERS.
I guess my "comfort level" has risen over the years>
