So my Windows 7 Toshiba laptop was doing it's automatic update, and when I came back the screen was blank. I figured, no problem, I need to power it up. So I hit the power button and nothing. The power button lights up but nothing else. No hard drive light, no DVD player spinning...nothing.
Any suggestions?

Did you first completely power down the laptop by holding the on/off button until the power light went off? Then power back on?

Have you tried booting it up in SAFE mode?

Probably not.
Unplug, take the battery out, push the power button, reinsert battery and plug it in. Try again.

The screen is completely blank. The option to boot up in safe mode does not come up.

If you can try hooking up an external monitor to the VGA port. It may come up to the setup screen.

It is possible the laptop shut down because the charge on the battery was very low. When you plug in the laptop does the LED for battery charging come on?
My Assus will show the "battery charging" symbol as orange color until 90% charge at which point the symbol turns green. At this point you could try to restart the computer.
If you cannot get the LED to show battery charging, you may have a bigger problem. The transformer has failed or a power board has failed, or possibly the battery has failed.
The power light could show power from the AC to DC power block, but the laptops run on battery-power so the battery looks suspect. The laptops do not run with the battery removed.
