Hi All and Merry Christmas!
Dh and I are planning on new tires for our Chevy Silverado 250. We tow a Coleman fifth wheel weighs 10,000 with nothing in it.

We've been using Michelins up to now but wondering if we really need to spend the extra on the name. General Tire has been mentioned as a good alternative, they are much less expensive. Has anyone used General? or any other lesser priced 10 ply E rated tires for towing?
Look forward to hearing your comments.

Thanks
Lynn

The truth is there really is not much difference between brands. Some may wear longer than others, but as long as you stick with a known brand in a tread pattern appropriate for your driving, you should be fine. The real issue is to use the size and load rating approved by the manufacturer of your vehicle.

Those running Firestone better hope you don't have any problems, because that's when your problems start. No warranty support.

I thought Goodyear was American made. Bought 3 for the 5ver.. The CHINESE made Goodyear are wearing much faster than the one made in the USA...

As a good alternative to Michelin and still staying with the same manufacturer try BF Goodrich. Just out of curiosity, how many miles did you get out of the Michelins? And how come you don't want to stick with them other than price? Have you calculated your tires cost per mile yet?

My new Silverado came with Generals, so I am also interested in people's experience with them. It has been over twenty years since I had Generals and they might have improved. I hope so.
