Ditto for most newer engines. The 3.0 liter CRD in my Jeep is smooth and quiet. It doesn't produce any soot and the exaust smells better than gasoline exhaust when I run biodiesel.

I disagree. My 6.7L PSD is quiet; doesn't shake, rattle & roll; never any soot; exhaust has no more smell than any other gas vehicle out there.

I tried that in my smart car diesel and it really kinda does smell like french fries.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but rather by the moments that take our breath away.
But who wants to be seen in the ugly Pruis. Wow I would wear a mask if I had one.
I think the new ones look ok. I wouldn't mind having one for the novelty. With my route being very easy city driving with long stretches of 30-40mph, it would be an ideal route car for work. Mileage could easily be higher than EPA estimates. I believe they're built here in the states too.

Well, folks, we have a 2011 Prius in addition to the truck (see sig.) No, it surely won't win any beauty contests. However, it does consistently achieve 45-50 mpg, which helps offset our fuel costs with the truck & trailer. At this point in our lives, we don't care whether our vehicles are good-looking or not.

I like the Prius but wish they would make a convertible version. If I ever need four seats (kinda doubting that) again I would definitly consider a Prius. Considering how many Taxi companies are adapting them they must be a pretty staunchly built long term ride.
Shame the Escape Hybrid got overlooked because of price. It has the same ultra reliable Atkins electric drive system. I sometimes wish we would have opted for the Hybrid version of our Escape. The Prius has much more comfortable seats than the Escape. If my DW liked the Prius, I'd buy one for our family car. Probably skip the rainbow sticker in favor of a Glock or Beretta sticker. Better yet, no sticker. Nobody "really" cares.
