Another vote here for the Garmin 1450LMT. You can add Low Clearances to it from Low Clearances.com so as to avoid roads with height restrictions.

I was just going to say that! We just got ours delivered yesterday so I haven't actually used it yet. I wanted this one so I could talk to it as well as it talking to me. Watch the online demo of HEY NUVI. This way one of us can use it while we drive and the other one is sleeping.

I have a Garmin 1450 with Life time map updates, and lane assist. LOVE IT.

I think they are around $150

I just bought a new Garmin Nuvi 1490LMT and it constantly "reboots" while enroute. Nothing like the gps crapping out right when you need it most. I'm about to send it back for repairs, but right now not very happy with the unit.

I did like the price of my 465T and the height/weight/length options are nice. easy to switch between car and truck mode too.

My old StreetPilot served me well for goodness knows how many years so I hope the 465T will too

Just pick a unit that has Lifetime Map and Traffic updates. I just picked-up a 2460LMT for $189.00. Lots of bargins to be had.

I don't need a GPS for that - my wife OFTEN tells me where to go...

Aside from that, we also use our 1450LMT all the time. The Lane Assist and Junction View are indispensable when you're in an unfamiliar area. You can make sure you're in the correct lane a couple of miles ahead.

You need to download the new operating system onto your 1490. Once you do that it will be rock solid. I bought a refurbish (brand new Costco return back to Garmin) because of the issue you described. The problem was solved in the new system update. It is GREAT now. Paid only $109 for the GPS and got Garmin to set me up with a one time new map update since I was a new owner.

OP here. A new garmin arrives tomorrow - 2555ltm . I am gathering from the responses that I will need to update it right out of the box? It sounds like that is what many of you had to do. And, time consuming at that? Amazon has a 30 day return policy - figure this will get me to FL - and if I don't like it, send it back - in the meantime I will research further. thanks all
