My 1968 Avion truck camper has the " old style ' awning rails on the camper. By old style I mean where you slide the awning into a rail on the camper. I am not familiar with the newer style of rollout awnings. Do they use the rail on the camper ? Are old style awnings still available ? I'm sure I sound like a dope but I'm just getting back into the RV game after leaving around 1976 !!!

As far as I know all awnings slide on a rail. Your problem will be finding arms to match your campers curve.

Being the Houndog I am, I never had regular awnings. I always used the electrical conduit frame kind with a silver tarp. Way bigger than I could put on the TC, and a whole lot cheaper to repair. Harbor freight for tarps, Home Depot for the elec. conduit pieces. Only the welded fixtures survived forever. I still have a set I think.

I found 8'x16' to be really useable.

I considered an awning for several years. I watched their use and frequency of use. I decided they were too restrictive in their use, and am no longer interested an awning.

I prefer an 10'x10' Ez-UP. With the EZ-UP, I am not tied to the TC, I can set it up front rear or on either side. I can put it beside the TC, or several feet away. It also serves as meeting place for large get to gathers. It also has optional sides. Total cost was about $200. I now have two EZ-UPs, a light weight for summer, and a heavy duty for winter. I tie them down with rachet straps, if I am in a place where I expect strong winds. Been working great for over five years.

The pole type awnings (like those linked above) will solve the arm problem as well as looking groovier. Do get scalloped (if not fringed!) edges and a vertical stripe. Sure, you could get the regular boring old bag awning everyone else has, but you don't have to. That's why you have a classic.

I picked up one of these in titanium (silver) to mount on my Avion.
Fiamma Awning

I have the 10 ft one that I plan to mount above the passengers windows. The advantage to this style of awning is that it is attached to the outside, and you don't have to carry anything inside the TC. The thing I would really like is to figure out an awning to go above the door, so when it is raining there would be a bit of protection. But with all the compound curves above the door, and the clearance lights... I don't think this will happen... I may just do the wal-mart blue-tarp and a couple poles, then use a rope and ratchet straps to since one end of the tarp to the camper, and then use two poles out the back with some guide-lines and stakes... just some ideas that I have had for my Avion C10.

Garry which model ( F25,F35,F45 ? ) did you go with ? If I understand the website correctly the awning is mounted to the camper and rolls up. But instead of support arms that are also on the camper these use conventional poles is that correct ? And the poles store inside the roller tube ? Thanks
