I have a new 2012 Honda Fit Sport automatic that has now been configured for towing behind my coach. It has the Blue Ox baseplate. The braking system is inertia from the Ready Brake Elite and tow bars on my coach.
I know about running the engine and pausing at each automatic gear starting a P and then to S or L, then to D, and settling at N. Turn off engine and turn key to first notch with gear in N. Leave key in ignition.
Radio and other powered things will be off. But what battery drain will I experience? Should I pull a fuse? If so, which one? Do I need a switch installed?
I know not to drive over 55 mph. And to stop every 5 hours or so and crank the car and let it run for 5 minutes or more? Go through the gears. Do any of you unhook it and drive it around too?
I've got an 8 hour trip coming up next week and want to have everything go perfectly. Don't want a dead battery.

Not absolutely sure, but I would think that since you don't have the battery drain of a electric braking system (other than when the brake lights come on), you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Starting it every 5 hours should solve any issues anyway. But if you are in doubt, you can always check the battery voltage after an hour, then two, then three, until you see how much it drops (if any?) while you tow it.
We've got two Fits and love them. I got it to tow behind us, but have yet to get it hooked up.....keep thinking I may go the dolly route, since there may be times we want to tow the mini-van back there.
Have a great trip

I have a 2012 Honda Fit Sport w/ Navi - just set up for towing -- How do you keep the Navi system from drawing down the battery? I can turn off the Audio, but the Navigation screen powers up when I turn the key to the Accessory 1 position.
Any ideas?

In your Fit owner s manual you can read that you have to remove a fuse ( I cannot remember which one but there is a fuse that has to be removed for travelling as a toad
I am getting my tow bar and Roadmaster All terrain install tomorrow and will be pulling our 2012 Fit behind our 2008 Winnebago View so I will have to setup a switch afterwards to remove power to that fuse, so that I don t have to pull the fuse every time we tow
Good luck

I tow a 2010 Honda Fit Sport automatic and I've never pulled any fuse. I have no battery problems despite the fact that I often tow for more that 6 hours.
Enjoy the Fit, I do.

I have an 09 and have never pulled a fuse. My 09 is 65 top speed is your new one really 55 or did you type wrong?
If you do start the car every 5 I think you have to run through all the pre towing sequence all over again

Our 2010 Fit is setup with a switch connected to the fuse to shut off all power to the dash. The switch mounts at the bottom of the dash.
When we stop at the 5 hour mark, I run through the transmission routine just like the original one as stated in the owners manual. We very seldom drive more than 4 hours so there's no need to worry about that job.
We also try to keep the speed at 60 Mph tops.

Thanks -- looks like I will have to go with the fuse/switch option -- do you have to re-enter your radio code each time you turn the fuse back on? Do you know what kind of switch was used?

The radio code doesn't have to be re-entered.
The switch is just a small one (Radio Shack) that goes anywhere you want it on the dash. The wires get soldered on the legs of the fuse to form a break in the current when it's "off".
