I have a UWS toolbox behind the hitch. I mounted it on slides because the tonneau cover prevented opening the cover but it's better since I don't have to stretch so far for tools.

So long as your truck has plenty of rear axle capacity, there shouldn't be a problem with the box in the rear of the bed. If your truck is already too small for the hitch weight, adding more weight behind the axle won't be helping the truck any...

X2. With this box I can still haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood and still have all my tools with me when I do not have the 5th wheel hitch in the bed. When I do have the 5th wheel on there is some room under my tool box for things like tire chains and a plastic storage box that I can put most anything in that will fit.

I agree. I used one from Checker Auto that was a low profile rail box that still allowed about 5" of space under it where I stored blocks and other things useful for 5-ing. I also carried a genset in front of the toolbox and STILL had plenty of room for the 5th wheel hitch. It also put all that extra weight sitting between the front and rear axles.

I got one at home depot, that sets in front of the hitch, it sets on the bed of the truck, not the rails. Wanted to be able to see hitch to hook up. At least by buying at a big box store, more to choose from and you can take it out and see if it serves the purpose for its use. Very happy with it, haul the little propane bottles, and lawn chairs in it, and keeps them out of the weather.

Iv'e got a low-profile tool box up front with a retrax tonneau and my factory tail gate so i can lock the whole she-bang up,i considered the rear box but now that wer'e full-timing i like having the space in the rear of the bed for groceries and such much like the trunk of a car also i found that due to weight=more fuel costs i learned to really consider what i really need to carry around. All that goes into the truck is truck related, air compressor, jack and stands,cheat-bar,sockets,car wash brush, spare fuel/gas cans, oil and such, all trailer realated things stay in the trailer and so on. Believe me,i'm a major tool guy and it would be easy for me to load up with all kinds of******i don't need but there's a lot of truth in "Less is more".

DH had a low profile, but would still bump into it if he misjudged the pin height when he backed-up. He got the front loading V-shape, similiar to link, but lost some of his storage room, especially for long items. But has never hit it over the last year and can see to backup easier.

I purchased one from Home Depot that is flush mount (below the bed rails) almost as wide as the truck bed and almost as deep as the bed of my DRW LB F350. I got this box so I could put both Honda 2000w generators in it and lock them up to secure them when traveling.

I got the one for rear of box......called the 'Partner'
It sits low....can hitch trailer up and open box.
For has served me very well.......sturdy/weather proof/heavy locking arms/battery operated light and quite roomy.
I have had one for seven or eight years and consider it one of the best options I have ever purchased. I had to rest the gooseneck of a 3 horse trailer with full living quarters on it one time to adjust the landing gear. I placed the hitch on a 14 inch long 2X6 to spread the load and the lid held. After all these years it is still weatherproof and the lock and latches work perfectly. In addition it takes the place of a tailgate for loose items I store in the bed.

I picked up a couple of heavy black plastic tool boxes at Lowes that fit like saddle bags - even with the top of bed rails - in the bed just behind the back doors. I can get it them with the rig on the hitch. lockable and look good after 6 years in the sun. Big enough for all the hand tools you can carry. Stay with the truck when we leave camp site. <$50 each.
