I might adopt 2 male guinea pigs. I've had piggies before and love them. The problem is my mom won't pig-sit when we go camping for 2 wks in the summer. Who here camps with them and is there any issues? We camp in the mountains and we won't have hookups so if it's warm, we have no AC. Thanks! Agnes

We have four of them. But they stay home and are not campers. Guess it depends on the heat. They apparently have heat issues over the low 80s. Ours have lived through warmer temps, but usually we have a fan moving the air.

Haven't camped with cavies, but we've camped with hamsters and gerbils. In Alaska, heat was NEVER a problem, in fact, we needed to be more concerned with them staying warm enough.

Once we got to the lower 48, we learned real fast that the heat can be a BIG problem. We had to transport them in the air-conditioned cabs of the pickups. They started out in the bunk room of the fiver, and I moved them from there to the horse trailer, which I *thought* would be cooler. Nope - stopped for fuel at 90* and they were literally on their backs panting. Pretty scary. I found out I could keep them cool for a bit by using plastic tupperware filled with water and frozen, but they decided to chew holes in it, so I had to go to plan B which was the cab of the trucks.

If the interior of your camper is going to get hot, you may want to rethink your plans to bring them. You could put them outside in the shade as long as there isn't a threat of predators. Some dog/cat boarding facilities will take guinea pigs/small critters, too, if that is something you want to check into. My clinic is always open to boarding them if they have their own cage and supplies... Cost wise is darn cheap, too, because they take VERY little employee time to care for...

Thank you. Heat could be an issue. I may have to rethink this. Agnes
