Glad your Ok but why is it always someones elses fault?? I know its a merge but drive defensively and YES sometimes although you have the right away Slow down....You said it yourself you saw the lady and told your wife your were going to hit.....It's my opinion but you couldve slowed down....or if possible change lanes.

I suspect the person who asked why you didn't slow down, never drove a big rig.
When I used to haul horses it really irked me when the guy with the VW would pull out in front of me and change gears. lol

Ouch. Merging is the most stressful part of my MH driving by far. Give me a twisty steep mountain road over a straight highway with traffic and merging any day.

Ahhh, sorry about your rv booboo. It is incredible that people can't see a BIG motorhome, but folk's ability to merge has gone the way of b&w tv!!! I just traveled I 95 from NJ to FL, lots of it 2 lanes, I do not move over for cars, but will move over for other rv's, trucks and busses. Cars can adjust their speed to safely merge, I will slow down to give them room if they can't get out of my way. 3 lanes and lots of exits/entrances, I will travel in the center lane. As for the OP, just because he could anticipate the crash, doesn't mean he had time to go/do anything - just glad the OP is ok.

We're had a few over the last few years run the shoulder for a ways cause I was in the right lane and could not get over. They use to teach in drivers training that you use the ramp to build up speed to merge into freeway traffic so as to not impede the flow of other vehicles.
I'll bet the driver in your accident said you were at fault for not moving over or slowing down to let them in.
I have been told that drivers ed. is no longer a required course in high school if this is so. we have bad drivers teaching bad habits to others and creating more bad drivers.

One thing puzzles me, though, and I hope you don't mind if I ask:
How is it that you saw the car coming in time to tell your wife what was about to happen, but couldn't slow down in time to avoid it?
I was thinking the same thing! When I see an entrance ramp ahead and cars merging, I prepare to provide room for them to merge!
I wasn't there, obviously, but maybe a little defensive driving could have avoided the collision.

It also amazes me how people DON'T know how to merge. We've seen it a million times! We have been lucky and I've had to use the air horns a few times.
To the OP, glad you are OK and everything else can be fixed.
