Can anyone help us find an affordable RV park in south or west Florida?
We Don't like to make advance reservations if we can help it.
This being our first RV trip to Florida we didn't realize how difficult it would be to find a place.
We normally stay at a park for less than a month and it looks like we should have made reservations a year ago.
We'd like to be in the Fort Myers area in about a week, right now we're in Lantana but can't stay much longer.
Any advice will be appreciated.

We are into our snowbird season. It gets crazy busy here and rv parks/resorts are slammmed. I suggest you go to RVParkReviews.com and get some names and phones numbers of RV parks and start calling to see what might be available. Koreshan SP is about 5 minutes from my house but not sure if they have anything.

Southern and coastal Fl is really tough in mid-winter. Try Collier-Seminole St Pk near Naples. And Midway Campground in the Big Cypress Nat'l Preserve on the Tamiami Trail. Both are limited in length of stay.

I just spent a few days in Everglades National Park. Lots of electric sites available at Flamingo but be prepared to drive 40 miles into the park! (They have added solar panels to several bathhouses so hot showers are available.)

There are a few sites available at Lake Letta RV Park in Avon Park. It's near to Sebring with good shopping and restaurants.

What's affordable?
You can get into the Pine Island KOA for sure but affordable and not in Ft. Myers.
We are presently in Blueberry Hill RV Resort in Bushnell, FL off I-75 and there is plenty of room in spacious sites BUT it is not near Ft. Myers.

Thank you all for your advice and help. This forum is awesome. I'm sure we'll find something very nice. I should have done my homework a little better. We're now in Boynton Beach, Fl. and our campground is about 80% french canadian, who knew?

The East Coast knows. French Canandians come south on I-95 all the way to South Florida, Ontarians that cross the border at Niagra Falls end up on I-75 and the west coast of Florida ....

I just did a quick check for site availability in Koreshan SP and there are sites available in January ($26 a night). We have stayed in a private CG in Labelle. If you are driving that route from Boynton you could do a check for parks along that route.

At this late date, you're either going to have to hunt for a CG well away from the coasts and probably further north, or spend the winter moving from place to place for the odd space that's empty for a week or two. Even those parks along the N/S center line of FL. will be crowded if they're close to an attraction like Disney.
Surrounded by French Canadians, eh?

Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
