I am a canuck. We are going to be in the states for about a month. Where we are staying does not have wireless, but it looks like they have cell coverage. I would like to use my laptop for internet access via cell phone. I already have a Telus Sierra Wireless mobile internet USB key that I would like to use (if possible).

Any suggestions for 30 day mobile data prepaid or anything like that?

thanks

I think your best bet will be to find the nearest McDonald's and use their free Wifi.

You can use your phone as a modem to dial up your ISP but the speed will only be ~56k.

We use this: Virgin Broadband2GO

Need to check coverage map though.

Thanks L&L. I also found that T-mobile has the same type of thing. They'll also allow me to purchase just a SIM card for use with my own USB mobile stick.

I should have mentioned the T-Mobile SIM. My son just got back from the US and he got a SIM and prepaid plan from T-Mobile to use in his Rogers smart phone.

Little update, now that I am in palm springs. Verizon wanted me to buy a stick. TMobile stores have sticks, but they are considerably more than the prices on the web. I wanted to use my stick that I already had, but I had to unlock it first. I used dc-unlocker software and it cost me $10. Then I was able to get a free SIM card from T-Mobile as long as I purchased a plan - I bought $50 worth - 5GB.

OK, forget what I just said. Turns out the Sierra 319U caould not communicate 3G with TMobile. So I had to buy a TMobile Stick for $50. Although I am connected 4G, speed is just so-so.
