I am going to trade my current 5th., wheel that has 30 AMP electrical. I purchased an additional 25 foot power cord a couple of years ago but have not had to use it yet. I have come close to using it but always managed to get close enough to the pedestal as my current 5er., connection is mid way on the trailer.
The new 5th. wheel I am going to buy has 50 AMP and the plug is at the rear of the trailer. I really don't want to haul around an heavy 50 amp extension cord if I don't have to as the 50 AMP cords are heavy.
In the rare case where I need more power cord can I use a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter and just use my 30 amp extension added to the 50 amp? I know I won't have the 50 amps but I could make do on 30 amps if necessary.
Any suggestions?

We use an extension once or twice a year. We do a lot of agility dog trials. Most of the time, there is no electrical hookup at all. But sometimes, at horse arenas, we do have electricity and, on rare occasions, an extension cord is needed.

We have a 50-amp service, but use a 30-amp extension. We have yet had to do that, when the pedestal had 50 amps available; ie, we usually have no electrical service or 30-amp connections at trial sites.

We got ourselves an extension for our 30 amp cord. We needed it once - just once in many years and I forgot where I stowed it! Neighbor saw our dilemma and brought one over for us to borrow.

I know that doesn't help you, but I did find our cord and won't soon forget its secret spot. Have it hidden away under the bottom drawer of our wardrobe.

Not often, but it is sort of like TP when you need it nothing else will do!

Use your 30 amp extention cord. If you find you need an extention cord often you can always buy a 50 amp later.
You can survive with only 30 amps.

The only thing I would check out is can your 50 AMP Shore Power Cable make it to the rear of the truck bed. This is for in case you might ever need to plug into a generator sitting on your truck tailgate.

My OFF-ROAD POPUP shore power cable just barely fits hooking up to our generator that is sitting on the tail gate of the truck when backed up as close to the front of the trailer as we can get in most parks.

I dont think we have ever run into a situation where the trailer Shore Power Cable wasnt long enough to fit a pedstal hookup somewhere...

However with PLAN B in mind we carry another 25-foot 30A extension cord in the RV TOOLBOX...

We have used our 3 times in the past year! One of them I may have been able to better move closer. When they are needed they can be a good friend indeed!

I also use an extension cord once or twice a year. We have a 50 amp MH but use a 30 amp extension.
