My Jayco 30.5 BHLT is quite spacious but only has a 13.5K air conditioner.
I am currently thinking of a Myrtle Beach S.C. trip in July at one of those beach type campgrounds. I suspect that there will be little shade to camp under, and I don't know the temperatures in July. Do you think that adding a second 13.5 AC would be a good idea, or is it not that bad near the shoreline?

It depends on your insulation. My Keystone Outback has R14 in the ceiling so my 13500btu ac will still cycle in 100+ weather.

We camped in July of 2011 at Huntington Beach State Park - Murrells Inlet with triple digit record temps. Our site was shaded and our Carrier roof air did a fine job on our then 32' Outback Sydney fifth wheel. We tend to keep our rig warmer than some so that you don't have such a drastic shock when going in and out of the RV during our stays. We keep the thermostat on 79 during the day and 75 at night. At those settings, our ac would cycle. Have a great trip. Phillip agreat trip

While it won't hurt to have another AC. With good insulation One will prolly do.
However. Did you mean July of this year? IF so. You better start making reservations. OR you won't be going. The oceanfront CGs at MB fill up quickly for July.

Camp in shade if possible will help alot also a small fan to move air around. I have used a fan outside too depending on heat and humidity.

You should be fine, our last TT was quiet large and had 13.5 AC at myrtle near 100 it would run constantly but was still comfortable in the day in full sun. Like the others said run a fan to stir the air some.
Happy Camping !!

The 13.5 unit we had on our 07 28.5rls JayFlight would not stay cool with out shade in the upper 90's. As I recall the Eagle SuperLites were just a renaming of the JayFlight line. Of course there were improvements and changes from one year to the next. This was one of the factors that played into the upgrade to the Mountaineer, with dual ACs

Myrtle Beach temp in July can be 90 to 100 degrees with high humidity. We cool our 35ft 5th wheel (3 slides) with a single 15000btu A/C and have always stayed comfortably cool and A/C cycles in these temperatures. I think you would be ok with your A/C.
Take some fans for sitting outside.
Check out Myrle Beach State Park for well shaded sites. You may not be able to find a site available anywhere in Myrtle Beach for July, 2012. We usually book 12 to 18 months in advance.

the truth is you want permission to get a second AC soooo go ahead and get it!!!. one way to look at it is if one of them breaks down you will have a backup!! not sure about your insulation R rating but it never hurts to have a second AC and while your at it get it with the heat pump option.

Like stated already.... depending on your insulation you may or may not be ok.. We spend a few weeks each year at MBTP out on the water , the only shade close is from your awning ..If your looking for a reason to add one.. Myrtle Beach is a good one !! enjoy and Happy Camping... Joe
