We just returned on Dec 18th. We had a blast. It was our second trip. We have never done the no expiration we just get 7 day tickets each trip. Our first trip was in August just after most schools including Florida schools had started. Obviously it will be hot but we found it not to be too bad because many of the rides have waiting lines that are the shade and/or inside buildings which are air conditioned. We were worried at first about the heat but in the end we did just fine with some pacing ourselves and doing the longer show type rides in the afternoon so we can cool off.

We always buy the park hopper with no expiration. This allows you to visit many parks during the day if you so desire and since they never expire, you will avoid future ticket price hikes. We found that this works best for us because we go to Disney every February with our children and grand children and have been going for over 25 years.

Can't help with the place to stop because we usally drive straight through. It gets us there a day early and allows us time to wind down from the drive and extra time at the Ft.Wilderness.

We had the same experience in Aug 09.
We buy the 10 day park hopper passes with no expiration. After day 6, the passes only go up about $3.00 a day. The no expiration is expensive but IMHO, worth it, especially if you are staying at Fort Wilderness. You do not feel rushed into using all your days, giving more time to relax at the Fort.

May is better weather. (cooler). August is very hot and humid. What route are you taking so we can better give stop recommendations.

About a 6 1/2 hr drive south is South of the Border RV Park. Another favorite overnight spot is New Green Acres in Walterboro, SC. about 8 1/2 hrs drive. Either is convenient for an overnight. Travel safe.

A few years ago, we bought 6-day no exp passes. I hesitated buying the 10 day simply because I didn't know how often we'd go but now I regret not having done the full 10 days as there really isn't that much difference. As far as the hopper, we got some before with the hopper but found that it only happened once that we went to one park and then left and went to another on the same day. The only thing we have done is have gone to the water park during part of the day and returned to the same park but I don't think water parks are covered by the hopper pass (I think they fall under a separate category and if you get multi-day passes for $50 extra or something like that, you also get the same amount of water park days).

If you think you might go to Florida every year or 2, I would strongly recommend the max amount of days (10) and no expiry unless you really think you'll use all the days at once (we usually go to 1 maybe 2 parks during a stay).

You did not give route , so difficult to guess . How many days do you want to spend in travel mode and how many days at WDW ?

With a wife and two small daughters , you will probably visit again and again . Factor the cost of the 6 day , 10 day , and the 1 year annual pass .

I have found that the annual pass is cheaper if I return within the year . Also when a particular park has the early opening for WDW guests , go to another park as it will be packed .

For value and quality experience go to Disney , for thrills and chills go to Universal , for rotting wood , peeling paint , and lame displays go to Seaworld .

On the other hand, my wife and I LOVE Seaworld. We're planning a trip to Orlando next winter and are talking of not staying at Fort Wilderness so that we don't feel guilty about going to SeaWorld.

May will not be as hot as August. The heat will get to you and your family. A great place to visit. Take your time and drink plenty of liquids.
