We went down last August from Maryland. Did a long first day so day two would be short. Stopped overnight at McIntosh Lake RV Park in Townsend, GA. Long drive made longer by heavy rains in NC (stop and go driving took twice as long to get through). SOB would have been a very early stop even without the traffic. We did stop there on the way back, which was fine.

I'd say drive as long as you feel you can. We started on the road at 5:30 and stopped for the night at 7:30.
