I just purchaced a Winegard wingman for my antenna::: BUT; when I went to install it I found that I could not until I reposition the antenna base as it would hit one of my ceilling vents. This involves removing the sealant, unscrewing the base and repositioning it. Not a job I would look forward to in this weather.

I also installed the Winegard SensorPro, which I expect will help aiming the antenna.

The question I have is; is the improvement in reception worth the work to reposition the antenna to install the wingman??

Any experience with this device would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

What kind of reception do you get without it? Its easy to put on when the antenna is up, and then you can run a comparison

No if you are close to the stations.
Yes if you are further out and want better reception.

I am not sure I would do it if it was that hard. I did notice a difference but not that much.

That's my opinion also, but I will take all the help I can get. Now CGs with cable is more important than before the change over to digital.

How much more clearance do you need in the present location? You can lop off the smallest element on the Wingman, although it does reduce the effectiveness somewhat. That might be an acceptable tradeoff versus repositioning the antenna base.

Our Wingman is quite helpful in the areas where we go camping. DTV is not a very strong signal and needs all the help it can get.

If you can return it you might consider the Jack antenna. Similar price and from reports On the forum, slightly better than the Wingard with the Wingman. I'd check the size here.

I had the same problem when I installed on my motor-home.

I ended up cutting off the smallest element to clear the AC pod when lowering.
I unscrewed the smallest element and repositioned it by screwing in on to the main wing. I placed it the same distance as before between elements. There is no wiring attaching elements so proper positioning is all that is needed. This settup actually allows antenna to function better when facing backwards (180 degrees) to signal.

The signal was the similar improvement found when added as a complete unit. Adding a R.S. signal amplifier doubled the range to close to 90 mile circle.

Messing with the original setup to allow proper lowering is not worth the money.

I'm thinking hacking off the last element and getting some of the benefit is the course to take.

Thanks All for the input,
Doug
