Instead of replacing my defective VHS/DVD/ATSC tuner with another one ($150) I decided to replace my 32" Plasma Monitor. Ended up with a 40" LED that is only 1.5" thick (Westinghouse LG-4080 $400) which just fits between the doors on either side.
Naturally the old mount was not big enough to use on the new TV. The nice thing about the LED is it runs 30 degrees cooler than the Plasma and has an anual engery cost of $15 instead of $150 for the Plasma. Yes, 1/10th the cost and when off it uses 1 watt.

Took the 3/4" trim piece off that went around the previous and mounted the new one on the face of the cabnet so it's only sticking out 3/4" more than the previous'

Made a bracket (1" used alum angle) that bolts where the normal bottom stand attachs. This sits on the bottom of the cabnet and supports most of the weight. Drilled the two mounting holes at the bottom of the angle for better leverage.

Since I was not at home (no shop) I had to rig the rest with plumber's strap. Ran a pair from the bottom two holes on the TV's back mount to help hold the weight and at the top I ran two to hold the top of the TV in. This picture is from the back looking up.

If I'd been at home I'd probably made two bars running vertically that would have fasten to the back bolts and would have rested on the bottom frame with lips that would let me screw them to the back of the cabnet frame.

I used a similar method except I used 4 turnbuckles and eyebolts. Much better and way less expensive than the factory mounts they sell.
Good looking job.

I was able to do much the same as turnbuckles by how far in I put the screws. Can't really see this in the pictures, but several are not all the way in. Actually reused the 5/16" lag bolts from the old mount for the two long straps and the one you cannot see is not all the way in. Reused the old holes for the lag bolts.

I would like to mount a TV bracket to the back wall of my coach(best place for larger TV), but I don't know if it would be safe to run screws through the wall. Any suggestions?

I have LED and my son-in-law has a plasma. I think the plasma has a better picture.

What's your take on which has a better picture?

Nothing is either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
