After a cold, wet month in pretty depressing Texas RV parks filled with long term workers we need sun, warmth and well maintained modern RV park/resorts. We are in a 2010 Fleetwood Fiesta with 2 dogs, a parrot and a Porsche toad. I 10/20 seems the safest route because of iffy weather but we welcome any and all suggestions for routes and high quality places to stay. State parks may be great in good weather but I don't think work well in the winter? As newbies, we are very grateful for all the great advice we are getting from you all!!

Not knowing where you are I recommand finding your way to IH-10 and head west. That would be your best route. Done it a few times and going to do it again in April. Good luck

Leaving my cousin's ranch west of Dallas, the weather in Texas is too cold and wet right now to be interesting, we just want the easiest, quickest route to Palm Springs with decent RV parks en route. We can enjoy the beauty of this region upon our return in the spring. Thanks for your reply.

Just wait a few days. This is the first rain we have had in months.

I played golf in shorts and short sleeves Friday in Fort Worth.

If you must go, I-20 west to I-10.

Ya, you are 400 miles north of warm weather in Texas (well, at lease 300).

20/10 is the route, but be sure to look at weather before leaving. It can snow along the first part of that route-- in fact it did in the last few days. Snow never lasts long, so finding a weather window is not really that difficult.

Remember this is prime time for PS so might want to call ahead for openings. there will be openings but maybe not at a price you are willing to pay.

I've driven these routes I-30/20/10 many many times.
West Texas from Abilene to Toyah (Permean Basin)(oil country) is really boring until you get to the Davis Mountains. Then gets better with mountains at a distance. There is no shorter route. El Paso IS NOT dangerous except for the drivers. Also RV parks, not good. Lived there 22 years.
From Las Cruses to Lordsburg is flat. A few RV parks are OK
At Lordsburg you could take US70/60 to PHX which is very scenic compared to I-10 and 2-3 hours slower. Many RV Parks near Mesa AZ.
Then I-10 to Palm Springs only way to go and semi-boring, Very dry desert. A few hills but most grades gentle except at Colorado River and Coachella Valley entering Palm Springs area. (Very long up/down hills but easily doable) PS is expensive this time of year. Call ahead.

I'd go I20 because I find it a bit prettier than I-10. Love the pretty pines of East Texas.

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

I-10 is the route to take. And Palm Springs can be real nice place if you like lots of sun, but I have seen some terrible Santa Ana winds in those low deserts. But I guess you can have some bad days any where in the country. I belong to TTtrails, so I stay at their private preserve. There are many RV parks in the area, so that won't be a problem finding one. Lots of golfing when I am in that part of the country.
