We need to buy a complete hitch set up for our new car. It will be towed behind our 2006 Fleetwood Bounder A Class. We are currently in Atlanta, GA.
Where do you recommend buying the entire tow apparatus? Does dinghy towing put mileage on the vehicle. How much money is reasonable to spend for a top of the line towing apparatus including installation. Thank you.

There will be a lot of recommendations about which brands of towing equipment to buy. What I would sugguest you do first, is determine what size drop hitch receiver you need to add so that your Honda will tow relatively level. I have a Southwind with a 2010 CRV and the drop hitch I had for my 2003 CRV is not as level as I would like. It is a 4 inch drop and I think a 6 inch would work better.

Take a look at Ready Brute tow bar with integrated tow brake. Probably the finest and least expensive system on the market.

The need for a drop hitch depends on two things. The height of the hitch receiver on the MH and the height of the attachment points for the towbar on the baseplate of the toad. Knowing this going in should allow you to select a toad baseplate that will work without a drop hitch that is more likely to drag.
No drop hitch required for my '98 CRV toad.

By the way, no mileage accumilates on the odometer when towing, but I advise that you keep track of the miles that you tow and add that figure to the miles that you drive the CRV to use for Transmisssion and differential fluid changes. For examaple if your CRV suggests fluid change at, say, 40,000 miles, then if you tow 20,000 and drive 20,000, it is time to change the fluid. Because when towing it is still using the transmission fluid just as if you were driving.
I have no recommendation for a base plate or tow bar, but I have used Roadmaster for 7 years and have had no problems. With the CRV be sure and follow the transmission shifting procedure each and every time you hook up. The procedure is in the owners manual, look in the index under, "towing behind a motorhome" for the right page number.

I suggest that you price shop or your tow-bar and base plate needed to tow. There are numerous RV dealers and RV supply stores that sell them and there are also some good used ones available. I would be sure to have any used equipment checked over by a qualified tech before use. The two leading manufacturers are Blue OX and Roadmaster and it is a difficult call as to which is best. I have had great service and support from Blue Ox but I have never owned Roadmaster equipment so it is not fair to say that mine is best, but I can say that mine has served well and was rebuilt by Blue Ox for the cost of shipping it to them and back again.

Most such equipment is going to cost between $800 & $1000 if purchased new. As long as you compare equipment of the two brands, I would buy mostly based upon price.

No. Since the automobile industry changed from from mechanical to electric odometers and speedometers, as long as the engine is not running it does not add miles on any chosen vehicle.

You do need to keep in mind that not all vehicles can be towed on their wheels without damage. In fact, only a few can be towed without some modification. The company REMCO makes kits that will enable towing of many vehicles that would not be otherwise.

I got my tow bar from Craigs List and the base plate on ebay. Had a local shop that specializes in trailers and towing do the installation. I'm towing a 2007 CRV as well and it's great!
