James Island State Park is wonderful. We stayed there for 4 nights late last February. Quiet, decent sized spaces and not at all crowded at this time of year. Its gonna be a little chilly to go kayaking, but to each there own. The park is very close to downtown Charleston. I agree that Patriots Point is a great day trip too.
If you are a pizza guy, like me, I would avoid D'Allesandro's even though it has high ratings. We loved Monza Pizza. Its a ritzy looking little restaurant, but the pizza is awesome and the salads are incredible.
Willow Tree in Longs, SC,near Myrtle Beach is very nice. They have about a dozen sites with hot tubs right at your site. Small lake and paved bike walking trail around lake. There are also lots of country roads in the area for bike riding. They have exercise room and nice store.
You're not too far from Myrtle Beach.
Been beached in Bridgewater VA like an old Orca while visiting with one of the prodical daughters', Lisa. It has been so cold here my brass monkey almost cried his off last night. Enjoyed checking out the VMI rats New Market story yesterday. We'll have to see how they fare against the Citadel, maybe tomorrow.
Well here we are; sand sans sun but WARMER than PA/VA. Would you believe wet suit clad surfers in mid January? Can't believe how busy this place is off season. I do enjoy T/Short climate and nice biking country. Gonna hate rewinterizing the RV when we head back north. Maybe I'll just ship the DW north via air express, and hang out here until the geese head north. Something to think about.

Bikes, boats (kayaks), Sam and gear is locked loaded and ready. We're looking for a little warmer water in a quiet park (a hot spa and cool red sounds nice), flat bike routes (think southern Natchez trace), decent food, and if I'm lucky someone to listen to my incessant verbage. I don't blog, but I do BS a lot. Not bad for an 80 yo with lots of experience, some luck, and even more tales and opinions to share, and who's still in the running in spite of his declining spacial perception!
Friends are good for advise and I know you're friendly and wanna help. We can all use a little of both. So don't be shy, just suggest where I should go ... in a friendly sort of way .... Like a user friendly, quiet RV site hear Charlestown SC.
For some good bar food...try the tattooed moose
