My camper has a Dometic digital thermostat for the furnace and air but its a confusing little thing. Would it be possible to use a residential thermostat or are the voltages wrong? Is there a "better" RV digital thermostat?? Mine don't show inside temp, just the setting its on and it runs the AC fan with the furnace on, but not the AC compressor. I guess thats for better air circulation?

Click here to see a great detailed document on how to install a Hunter residential thermostat. I followed these directions just a few months ago and it is one of the best modifications I made to the motorhome. Follow the directions and you cannot go wrong.

Hope this helps.

This outlines exactly what you need to. I installed residential programmable in my last two campers.

May I ask why you would want to operate the a/c compressor with the furnace on? The fan is that way to give you the option of using it to move the air about inside of the RV, when not using either the a/c or the furnace. I suppose that you might want it when heating, but I have only run mine if neither heating nor cooling.

The Hunter t-stat is a good improvement but if you wan't something that keeps the temp right on target without any overshoot, and runs the furnace less overall, get one that's Energy Star rated.

The AC fan on FURNACE mode will only work if you have the tstat on lo/med/hi fan. If you put it on AUTO fan, the AC fan will not run on furnace. And yes, the AC fan on furnace is designed for better hot air circulation. Doug
