I just finished rebuilding the wings and basement floor on my ’96 Coachmen and I re-sealed every seam on the coach. I removed the factory bumper and step due to an engineering flaw (in my opinion). It put too much torque on the floor of the basement, and I felt like I was better off removing it. That created the problem of how to get in and out of the coach. Here is my solution. All the torque is transferred to the hitch and not he coach. Plus, it added a little more storage.

You should put some anti slip material on the lid as well.

I am looking for a carrier just like yours but I think that I am either going to flip it around or put something on the mesh so I won't trip on the metal sides. Also I am going to run aircraft cable from the rear corners to the jack supports for a little extra support.

Great Idea...I built one similar and I can hook my scissor steps to the side and my ice chest and generator fit on the left side of the door.

Looks great! I might suggest that you use one of those little receivers on the bottom of the carrier, to install a removable hand-rail for getting up and down those steps. I doubt very much if they are normal height, and I know that as I get older, it's nice to have a hand-hold....especially going down those steps

Do you get out on the beach with that rig? You are just a hop, skip, and a jump from where I am, in Wilmington.

We go to the North End at Carolina Beach, Cape lookout, and Cape Hatteras several times a year.

The spacing on the steps are pretty good.

I'm not finished yet. I am working on a filler insert so that the first step up onto the hitch-haul does not have a lip sticking up. the first step will be smooth and level. I ran out of time tonight.
