Tuesday evening ... Clinic called us for Ricks (dh) lab work. Severely anemic. Said to get to ER. Please pray.
*Led to a blood transfusion with 3 units of blood.
Wednesday ... Waiting on test results and consultation with specialist.....waiting has never been my "comfort zone" .... Sigh. Praying and praying.
Thursday ... Please continue to pray for Rick. Pray for the doctors, too.
We are very frustrated and discouraged.
The tests results coming back are not the best (could be worse, tho) - however, Rick is actually doing better than he should be doing (which is great - ) ...
But everything has the doctors, the nurses, us - all VERY confused and frustrated and discouraged.
Even the specialist is frustrated and confused!
Please pray - preferably that God will just take control and give total and complete HEALING.
Today ... Tests are coming back on Rick. Some good news. Some bad news. Some so-so news. Sigh. A lot to process. Even more to learn and to DO - for both of us.
"Acute kidney injury with renal failure" - now we begin to take a deep breath, pray harder, and start the road to recovery.
Dr. says there is a chance of recovery - he isn't giving us hope of a total recovery. I take his wisdom and his knowledge as it is - a man who is schooled in this.
HOWEVER - we do NOT serve this doctor! We serve the GREAT PHYSICIAN!!! And I am praying believing that God can and will heal - to HIS glory!
We have to do our best, pray that it is blessed, and leave it all to Jesus now ...
Lord, help us.
Friends and family - PRAY FOR US.
Cause of this? Medications. With diabetes as a complication. ... Trying to get all numbers within range before releasing. ... Changing diet. ...
Blood now at 9.4 - was 6.8 - should be 12. ...
Heart is testing good.
Kidneys actually look good on ultrasound.
The results of the CT scan on chest?
Lymph nodes are swollen in the middle of the chest. More tests. Separate issue.
Could be ??? from an "easy fix" to something more serious. Should know more in a week. Sigh.
Blood pressure not low enough ... taking a new medication (supposed to be safe) - still not coming down yet.
Blood sugar not low enough ... now taking insulin trying to get it down. Needs to come down so that the kidneys can relax a bit.
Other "bad" numbers not low enough ... coming down - but not enough.
Good numbers not high enough to be balanced out.
Rick will be in the hospital until numbers are better - and more stable.
Once cancer test came back negative today - Praise God!
Another cancer test is due back in the morning - please pray it too is negative.
We are both exhausted. From the stress to lack of sleep to all the changes.
please pray for us.
thank you.

As of this morning (Saturday) so far -
his blood pressure is lower and more stable at being lower - at least thru the night.
his blood sugar is also lower - it was 230 last night and was 125 this morning. (Course, I tried to explain to the nurse last night - he had just eaten within the hour of her taking his blood last night. sigh.)
the potassium was lower this morning - 4.9 ... must be below 4.0
his blood has dropped to 8.9 - my question ... could that be because they have pulled so much blood for labs? Most people it would not be an issue. However, Rick's body is having a hard time producing the red blood cells - which is why he was anemic in the first place. (Nurse got rude with me over this question. )
His oxygen level is running between 92 - 100 without oxygen - but a couple of the nurses keep insisting that he wear the oxygen. Arghhhhhhhh!!!
they have started giving him insulin for the higher blood sugar numbers. i agree that insulin is safer than most of these other drugs - simply because the body produces insulin and knows what to do with that which you take. However - as a truck driver, taking insulin is a NO-NO. Sigh.
granted, Rick's health and live is vastly more important than the job. But as a man - he is beginning to stress with the thought of how is he going to do his job if they make him to take insulin. And if he cannot do the job - how can we live? how can he maintain the insurance he has now? what about our bills? Sigh.
(Trying to keep this man calm and quiet about his health is one thing ... trying to keep him calm and quiet about the job, too --- arghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!)
Please continue to pray.
we should know this morning the results of the other cancer test.
they also drew blood around 3 a.m. - so we should be getting those labs back as well.
sigh.
until after seeing the doctor this a.m. we won't know if there are any more tests for today - or just a day of trying to rest and maintain the better numbers.
please keep praying - for Rick ... for healing.
for me - that God will help me to be more rested than what i am able to do ... and that i will be more sane than i am! LOL

I have. If I may offer some advice. Keep a pad and pen with you and write down what the doctors are saying to you and Rick. Especially in times like this, we need help retaining all the information with which we are being bombarded. Call you doctor, get a sleep aid. If you are exhausted from lack of sleep and anxiety, you will also get sick and then where are you going to be?
Eat well, drink fluids and get some sleep. There are doctors and nurses who are trained to care for him and heal him and they are watching over him 24 hours a day. You can sleep during the night, when things are quieter and Rick is resting - with enough pillows and blankets from home, even a miserable lounge chair can be very comfy. Get home one night and really sleep, he will be fine and you can be there before rotations in the morning.
By best wishes and prayers to you and Rick.

His oxygen level is running between 92 - 100 without oxygen - but a couple of the nurses keep insisting that he wear the oxygen. Arghhhhhhhh!!!
It's essential for his heart function and other major organ function for his O2 sat to remain constant. Stay on the oxygen.
However - as a truck driver, taking insulin is a NO-NO. Sigh.
For right now concentrate on getting him stable and getting what he'll need for meds, etc. under control. Once everything stabilizes med requirements may change. If a nurse is nasty report her, and request a new. And remember that every day new medications, processes, cures and controls are developed. Control what you can, accept the rest, and keep your faith.
