We're considering selling our two daily drivers for a newer AWD or 4 WD vehicle, seats 6+ that is tow dolly and 4 down towing compatible. We'd be happy with just dolly compatible it want the option in the future of going to 4 down. Plus it seems hard to find a vehicle that fits our criteria that can be dollied. We like to dolly idea, cheaper if we buy used and we thought we could use any vehicle. This appears where we were mistaken (any veh).

Our current DD's: 04 Volvo V70R 6sp manual AWD and 06 Pontiac Montana v6, fwd. both have over 100k miles.

Any ideas or point me in the direction as where to look.

Thanks

What's your tow hitch capacity? That may eliminate several vehicles.

Other than hitch and weight-carrying capacity of a dolly - what vehicles are NOT dolly - compatible?
Need to know 'cause we are new to MH and now need to tow a car.

quite a few AWD SUV's we looked at, none are dolly compatible. Theres got to be some options out there. Many to most AWD SUV's are 4 down compatible.

We just didn't want to set up a 4 down toad and be stuck with it for a long time versus using so we thought any car with a dolly.

Sounds like you are trying to have your cake and eat it to. I can be mistaken but all of the AWD/4WD vehicles that can be towed 4down can not be dolly towed. The other option would be to trailer.
Maybe someone out there has a better option.

Thank you all for the replies. We'll have to reconsider our options.

As mowermech stated most if not all AWD, especially, and 4wd drive can be 4 down or all off the ground. Your other challenge is going to be something that seats 6 and stays under 3500lbs. Which the age and chassis you said you have generally had for max capacity.

In all my years of owning AWD and 4X4 vehicles, I have never found one that could be dolly towed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, UNLESS the rear driveshaft was disconnected or removed.
Now then, WARN used to make a full-floating axle conversion kit for older Jeeps, that would allow the installation of WARN lock-out hubs on the rear. IF you can find a Jeep that has had that modification done, you could put it on a dolly, unlock the rear hubs, and tow it as far and as fast as you want! For four-down towing, just unlock all four hubs, and away you go.
One of those Jeeps might be a little hard to find, though. I know there
is at least one out there somewhere, I installed the kit! It is a CJ5 Tuxedo Park Edition. The last I heard, it was in California somewhere.
Good luck.
