I have a 2011 Carriage Cameo fifth wheel and am thinking about an "upgrade" to a Kodiak/Titan disc brake system. I'd like to hear from others who have done the same to see what you think. Is the two thousand dollar retrofit worth it overall in the advertised gains of:
shorter stopping distances, more predictable and consistant braking, less maintenance, and more reliability? Thanks, Phillip

I have an '05 HitchHiker LS 29.5 LKTG purchased used from a couple that fulltimed in it before moving up to a Champagne Edition. They spent a lot of money on upgrades including MorRyde IS suspension and Kodiak Disc brakes (I forget which hydraulic actuator is installed). No doubt your Cameo is heavier, but I can tell you the disc brakes stop smoothly and with authority. I would say your money would be well spent.

We saw the vendor at the Tampa RV Super Show, as well. I chatted with him for a while. For our rig with 4 wheels with 8 lugs and the in-cab module, we were quoted a price of $2000 installed. phillip

You will never regret the upgrade. 13,000 miles last year and totally happy. My Cameo was ordered new with IS and discs. Be sure to check with Mor-Ryde about the upgrade. They did the installs for Carriage. Possibly the best customer service I have ever dealt with.

We will NOT be making any long distance trips until I dump these lousy electric brakes. We barely made it down some of the steep descents we encountered on our last cross country trip, no more for us.

At the Tampa RV show the Kodiak brake system was on sale for $1,350, the best I have seen beside that quote was $1,500 for a complete system.

We did the upgrade on a 2006 Cambridge 358 by Keystone, and the cost was $3,093. I haven't owned but one 5th wheel since without Disk Brakes and traded it in less that 30 days. In my opinion all 5th wheels 34' and longer should have Disk Brakes. I do believe if you do go to Disk Brakes you will never go back to Electric brakes.. I had my Kodiak Disk brakes system done by Mor/Ryde in Elkhart, Ind. Can you imagine a 1 ton Truck without Disk brakes today?? Good Luck on your choice... Happy Trails...

I had discs installed at MorRyde for my 05 Cameo and will never have another heavy fiver (over 10K) without them. World of difference.

Don't mean to change the subject, but if I convert from electric to disc brakes, do I need to change axles also? I have LCI 6000# axles.

Thanks.

I have the same system on both a triple axle 18,000# boat trailer and a 04 14,300# Cardinal. 50,000 mile on the Cardinal. 4X around the USA. I use a Brake Smart actuator. No issues.
