The finish on our table is pretty thin also. We just got a piece of clear plastic from Wally World to put over it like a tablecloth. Works great. We love having a table and chairs instead of trying to squeeze into a booth..

We just used wax on the table in our Alpenlite 5Ver. I always thought the table looked nicer. Just took longer to get the RV ready for a trip with the table, recliners etc. Everthing had to be tied down.

For us I agree the only downside will be having to take the time to tie everything down before leaving, just another thing to remember. After so many years, 18 with one fifth-wheel, this will be quite an adventure for us. The table may be the least of our worries. Thanks for all the replies.

Great minds think alike.
I just pulled the table out of my fiver to give it a couple coats of polyurethane. Plan on using Minwax semi-gloss spray bombs.
I sprayed the interiors of my new kitchen cabinets when our home was first built and it really has kept the interiors in great shape. Don't have to worry about spills or leaks under the sink. Been thinking about doing the same thing to the cabinets in the trailer. The only problem will be the ability to keep the windows open long enough to let it air out afterwards. At the very least I want to get under the kitchen sink and inside the bathroom vanity.

We did something different after we saw this in a Class A. We removed our table altogether and replaced it with a residental unit. We now have a table that is 36 X 52 inches big and ours happens to be counter high. It's normal position is pushed against he wall with two chairs between the wall and table. When we have more that two folks for dinner or cards we lift the table out into the center of our floor so we can sit around it. A benefit is we are no longer sitting in a slid out (weight). Were full timers and have had no problems while traveling and this table is not bolted down. We have a Jayco Designer RLSA that doesn't have a center island or cabinet sticking out so we have the room. Another benefit is being able to use my lap top and look out the window at the same time, in my case I'm looking at the beach right now.

Thanks for all the responses. I think we will probably wax it as suggested and see what happens. We can always put some type of polyurethane if the finish started getting bad.

My alpenlite has a oak table 1 1/2 in thick. Don't know what the finish is, but water or hot objects does not hurt it. My 5r is 18 yr old this year. Same finish. Also, I never tye my chairs down. 12,000 miles to Alaska and the chairs never moved, even over the famous frost heaves and 100 miles of dirt.

A lot of the newer 5er tables are a thin veneer, not solid wood. An ounce (or coat or hour spent) of prevention will be better than a pound of cure.

My table is solid wood. And it expands to seat 6, using the leafs that store under the table top. So a glass or polycarbonate top is not our best option. And the table top will stain from standing water. Wax doesn't stand up all that well. I agree that to put down a coat or two of some type of polyurethane sealant would be a good thing to do.
