We just closed on our new fifth-wheel, Jayco Eagle SuperLite HT 26.5 RLS, today and we got the optional table and chairs rather than the booth. Looking at the table we feel it will get stained with water and other liquids very easily. Do you think putting down a coat or two of some type of polyurethane sealant would be a good thing to do? We will be leaving the trailer at the dealer's lot until after April 15 since we won't be going anywhere until then.

We thought the same thing about the cherry wood table top in our new fiver but so far it's held up good. In time I will probably do what you are thinking of just as insurance.

I put 2 coats of Johnson's paste wax on mine. Water just beads up and marks can be buffed out with a towel.

For what its worth, My rig I recently , maybe 2 years ago, I put a couple coats of clear polyurathane on it .................it was starting to wear the original finish off a bit, looks like new now.

I have had a few rigs with the dinnete , I LOVE my table/chairs.

I would wait until it gets much warmer, after you pick it up in April - freezing temps are not condusive to a good coat of polyurethane and I would put at least 2, but probably 3 good coats on it for the most protection.

Had the same dilemma with our cherry wood dinette top. We had 1/4" glass cut to fit the table top. While traveling, we keep the glass top secure with flat bungee cords wrapped around the top. Travels well. Remove bungee cords when setting up camp. Pretty wood table top shows thru glass, and the glass can be cleaned with Windex after each meal. No worry about water glass rings, food smudges, or scratches in wood.

We just bought a vinyl tablecloth, and folded it in half to get the right dimensions. Having a wood table that matches the cupboard doors looks pretty but is not very practical for constant daily use. Though the glass top does sound like a good option.

My 11 year old grand-son has a hard time sleeping on a table so we are happy with our booth/bed type. I can see a day down the road where I would enjoy a regular table and chairs.

It was kind of a concern about the sleeping arrangements, but we got the couch with the air mattress for additional sleeping arrangements. We thought the table would be a little more flexible even though we will lose some storage space.
