Accident far away from home
Has anyone dealt with having their Motorhome rendered un-drivable after an accident that was 100% not their fault, far-away from home? I did and it was not anything I can say we were prepared for. Insurance companies and tow companies were of little help and we had to fend for ourselves. Does anyone understand his or her rights? I.E. trip interruption compensation, unbelievably feeling alone 700 + miles from home.
P.S. we where legally parked in a rest area when the TT backed into us.
Just wondering?, r0n……. .

Do you have Good Sam or AAA RV coverage? They give assistance.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune!
I haven't had an accident, but have had a few breakdowns when on the road...
As far as one's rights are concerned, they're strictly limited to those specifically named in one's insurance/warranty coverage. I'd be surprised if trip delay/mental anguish type compensation was included on standard policies, but it may be available as a rider.
It's wise to read and understand policies BEFORE leaving home so as to avoid surprises should disaster occurr.
I learned this lesson when I threw a timing chain on my TV and discovered that while the tow for it was covered by my policy, the tow for my trailer wasn't.
It is now, though of course that didn't get me my $200.00 back!

I am sorry to hear of your misfortune. I have not been involved in an accident of any kind but I have had mechanical problems. I know it is not the same but an Emergency Roadside Service policy came to my rescue and I would expect my insurance company to come to my rescue in a circumstance like you are having.
I specificly switched my RV insurance from a company that said "yeah that is all included" but none of the paperwork stated things like trip interuption per diem or other thing needed for traveling in an RV on vacation. I went to a company that has it all and at a lower cost.
So, what I am trying to say is your insurance company should be helping you out but if it doesn't cover those things we RVers need in the event of an demobilizing accident then "tag your it". Sorry.

Very disappointing when YOUR insurance is not sufficient enough to make the situation more bearable. While I have never had your situation occur, State Farm has been great and I have turned down a few things I have been offered by them. Hotels, meals, travel expenses, etc.
What type of TT backing up was able to disable a MH?

You have legal remedies. I would contact an attorney in the local area and request he intervene in attaining your transportation to home and appropriate housing until you have arrived home. The coach should be taken to a Truck/Motorhome repair facility and the losses would be covered by the at fault insured.
If all else fails make your insurance company cough up the money under your non/under insured and or collision comprehensive coverage.

I had a trailer damaged while over a thousand miles from home but don't recall that it was any worse than any other accident situation. Travelers sent an agent to our location to inspect the damage and write an authorization for local RV dealer to make repairs and we were back on the road the next day after parts arrived. If your insurance didn't perform well for you it's time to be looking at other coverage. It SHOULDN'T make any difference at all WHERE you have a problem, the service SHOULD meet your needs.
