I have a 1968 Avion TC and as I plan the refurb I'm thinking about adding/updating the appliances. When adding a microwave is it a good idea to get the smallest available in regards to wattage ? I was in Home Depot the other day and they had Magic Chef 700 watt compact microwave ovens on clearance for $39.99. While the price was attractive I was really interested in it because it was 700 watts. I didn't realize they came this low I thought 900 was the lowest. So for you guys and gals that have them what wattage are you using ? Is there such a thing as a over the range compact microwave ?

I would like to know the answer too, as we have a cook top in our Avion C-10 TC, and would like to add a microwave or a convection microwave. Understanding that it would require shore power or a generator to run it, but still interested, as we would mount it below our current cook-top in leiu of an oven.
Thanks for asking the question!

I am planning on making the same upgrade to my T/C that I had in my last Class "A". I removed the stove/oven (I never used the oven in the 10 years that I had it before the upgrade). I installed a propane three burner cook top and made a cabinet underneath for the portable ice maker. Then I removed the 1000W microwave in the cabinet over the range area. I then changed out the 15A circuit breaker for the M/Wave and installed a 20A. I ran a 12/2 with ground romex to the new M/wave junction box and installed a convection/microwave. I had a carpenter friend reface the installation to look built-in.
I even had my 2500/5000W inverter (with two banks of T-105's) setup so that I could transfer to my 30A 110V service. That way I could run the Micro and my under cabinet coffee pot in the morning with out having to fire the gene and wake other campers.
I used that setup for three years before I sold the Coach. Worked great.

Depends on yer input service, if yer running a 20 amp feed line, I'd stick with a 700 watt unit, which is what I fitted into my 1974 KIT, though I simply modified a $35.00 Emerson Radio Company microwave into an under cabinet mount.

I run mine off my cheapy 1200 watt Champion generator.

A 15A feed will happily power a 1500W device, let alone a 700W microwave.
Am I missing something?
My microwave/convection required a 20A circuit as per the installation instructions. I know that the one that I installed in my parent's house also required a 20A circuit.
Just following instructions.

I have had a 700 watt microwave in my TC for over seven years. Like Joe, I mounted it under a cabinet. For me, it was important that the Honda 2000 could run my microwave, it does.

Reddog1 that is the main reason I asked the question. I currently do not have a generator but I can see one in the future. Not knowing if I'll go with a 2,000 or 3,000 watt version is why I asked. I know going from a 700 to a 900 isn't that big a deal but then add current draw from AC, water heater ,coffee maker and so on it all adds up.
