The game camera sound like a good deal. They can be set up for motion detection and be somewhat efficient.
The local leo's do not have time to investigate the 10 dollar thefts with no ability to id a perp. Its not CSI time.
Still my point was that there are a FEW obnoxious persons that are looking forward to moving on and tend to get sticky fingers and keeping stuff locked up is the best way to keep stuff.
As there are few kids in the neighborhood, last time we had a Halloween trick or treater was 2005 and the theft value is not sufficient to support a pawn shop druggee and historically the theft rate rises in Febuary, it could well be an obnoxious transient staying over the winter. I will get a picture of the miscreant and post with my new game camera.

Since many "Winter Texans" are Canadians - seems like we have some CANADIAN BACON sizzling in the fire EHHHHHHH?
Come on... Where I do believe that a sudden increase in population COULD lead to an increase in the local crime rate, I refuse to believe that ALL the perpetrators are in the Winter population. I lived just down the road from the OP, on Padre Island off shore from Corpus Christi for 5 years and am very familiar with the comings and goings of the Winter Texans - there is NO way I would blame crime increase with the vast, VAST majority of them.

Very good idea if it's continuous and you want to get to the bottom of it.

In Florida, our population of drifters and pan-handlers increases. I am not talking about your down on their luck homeless families. I am referring to the street people that make their living in the north during the summer and go to warm climes in the winter.

How about working for 30 years in law enforcement in a city like LA?

I was down in Rockport last week and 'found' some 'abandoned' items.
An almost new anode rod, some gas cans and some toolboxes with tools......couldn't find an owner so I guess it's 'Finders/keepers....losers/weepers'.
Now I'm down in Florida.....hope my luck holds.

One 5 gallon gas can full of contaminated gas placed for easy access of sticky fingers would be sweet justice.

I would agree that there may be a more destructive element showing its face. We have been back at our house(Arkansas) for about 2 months (we go north or west for the spring/summer/fall) after living here for 7 years never having any trouble to speak of, we have had the RV(sitting in our driveway were one has been siting here and other homes for over 10 years) egged twice and has had the windshield broken.

That is great until they figure out what happened then come back and burn your house down to get even. Not good to mess with Karma.

Hopefully you're not equating an explosion of the pan handlers population with the Snow Birds population?
Yes? No? I see no relevance!
