If you are looking at smooth wall trailers look very closely for any signs of delamination.

If your concerned at all about frames. Get a carson toyhauler. They are basically a real car trailer with a trailer built around it. Most manafacturers ran into problems because they were tyrying to turn a travel trailer into a toyhauer and not making the appropriate changes to the frame. Mine has fiberglass sides and a built in genny. It is very solid compared to the other toyhaulers I have seen. When it gets too old and starts falling apart im not going to sell it im just going to rip the trailer part off nd have myself a nice 10000 lb car trailer.

I am terribly ignorant regarding toyhaulers and the issues around them.
I didnt even know to be concerned about the frames in the first place. All the trailers I have built I really over built because weight wasnt a issue. I bow to you gentlemen, the people with experience to advise me on what I should be looking at. for instance I now know to closely inspect the frame for damage.

I have been looking at (via internet) several within about a 1000 miles of my home, Ive learned that prices vary regionally as well as by condition. Once I narrow it down some more I hope to personally inspect or hire someone to inspect for me my choices (depending on distance from my house and previous travel plans I have.)

One that I am interested in is a 07 Thor California rocky mtn edition 28ft fifth wheel Does anyone have any knowledge of this make/model?

My first suggestion is stay far away from any brand that is not still in business.

ThorCa fits that bill, as well as Weakend Warrior. If their products were top notch and they stood behind what they sold and built it right in the first place, they would all still be in business. I had a ThorCa product when the ownership changed hands, they left all of their former customers without any warranty.

Easier to name the ones still in business. Keystone, forest river, Nu wa, several others will chime in

if you limit your search to only builders still in business your going to be severely limited in the price range your looking at. as some one else stated the list of trailers, no longer in production, is a long one

i wouldn't have any thing but a tri-axle traliler.with the gen-set,100+ fresh water tank, 30 gal fuel tank, the weight desperation of the extra axle is well worth having, especially in sand and soft ground. i like spreading the weight on the frame over a longer area to. this will help when loading if you can't get hauled vehicles loaded for perfect balance

I was a mechanic on road construction so i got used to bumper pull trailers. the one 5th wheel we did have was nice and did pull well, but the wind it caught and loss of tv bed space wasn't worth it. had service truck and wasn't practical to install 5er hitch. had to pull with another pu.
bumper pull could pull when ever with what ever was available.
