Last spring when we had the fifth-wheel out for the first time, the check valve in my black water flushing system had a leak. That's when I figured out that I had totally forgotten to winterize this system. I would be interested in knowing how others winterize their systems. I had my rig professionally winterized last fall, but would have always done my own winterizing and would like to in the future.

I don't do anything with mine except empty it, then put some pink stuff in it afterwards.

Plastic will bust or crack when the ice causes it to expand. A very large tank with a tiny bit of water left in it (as in whatever residual water is left behind after a good emptying) will usually be fine. In your smaller pipes that it expands and the pressure will cause it to burst. I put some RV antifreeze in my black and gray tank after emptying completely, not even a lot of it, for safe measure. Never a problem in ten years.

Not worried about the tank, but the line and check valve in the black water flush.

All i have ever done is put in RV antifreeze after draining everything, and in all the water traps. About five years ago I used to also blow it out with an air compressor, I stopped doing that and its been fine. And we've had some pretty good freezes.

x4. And after I blow it out I pour antifreeze in it.

I winterize all other lines with antifreeze, only blow out black tank flusher.

I have an outside faucet with hose. I connect the hose to the flush input and pump in the antifreeze.
