We gonna travel the west by car and tent. Can you please recommend us favorable camp sites in the west of the USA for stays in a tent? What about camp sites close to / directly in LA, nearby the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone NP, Las Vegas, Seattle, SF,...?
I think one of my all time favorites is "Red Canyon" campground in the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area (Northeastern Utah). Camping within a few feet of a 1000 foot drop down to the reservoir and the scenery and wildlife are fantastic.

For Grand Canyon, we used to tent-camp inside the park, and also in the National Forest just outside the south entrance. It's near the airport, but we were never bothered by any noise.
In Yellowstone, the Slough Creek camp up near Tower Junction is for tents only, (or used to be).
But do be aware that tent camping in bear country requires that you take precautions seriously--NEVER have food in your tent. ALWAYS put all food, coolers, water, etc in a closed, locked, hardside vehicle or in a bear box when not in use.

If you go to Grand Teton National Park, which is just south of Yellowstone, the campground at Jenny Lake is tents only and is located right at the base of the mountains.
For LA, try Leo Carillo in Malibu, or Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas (but it can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, but nice in between, it will remind you of Korea, because MASH was filmed there) There are also some federal CGs in the hills above Pasadena. Most of the best CGs in the LA area can be found along the beaches. Any particular area?
For the National Parks, you will have the best experience if you stay in their CGs. Check out their websites.
