Amen! And don't even think about riding in a Class C motorhome when its riding down the road. We also won't talk about all the truck campers or the Class A motorhomes where people ride without seat belts. Please don't talk about this too much because my great state (CA) will probably pass some more laws dictating a requirement for a helmet or some other form of control...
Luxury Motorhome Crash Deaths Under Investigation

I think the bottom line is you have to make informed decisions but ultimately it is your decision where to take risk. I wish my kids could enjoy some of the fun I had when I was a kid (e.g. riding in the back of my dad's pick up truck) at times when I decide it is safe and not dictated by my state. If you research this topic enough, you won't ride in any RV if you are very risk averse. On the other hand, I don't have a lot of respect for the people that call you an idiot because you decide to take a risk they would not. And most likely they are hypocritical taking risks in some other manner (over weight, not exercising, etc.) that many of us would think were poor decisions... To each his own.

Don't have a list but read some where that it is not legal in TT, AFAIK.

Yeah- it'd be a real shame if somebody passed ANY rules about RV construction!
But don't worry about it happening anytime soon because according to The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association- and I quote from the link you provided-:
"NHTSA (The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) hasn't crash tested finished motor homes because they are fundamentally safe-- there simply haven't been enough deaths to warrant the cost of purchasing and testing these types of vehicles."
Whew!

Yes, we can only hope the government will pass more regulations and laws for us... I guess I should be thankful I'm still allowed to ride my motorcycles cause they wouldn't do real well in the government crash tests.

Fortunately for Free Spirits everywhere, crash testing of motorcycles is impossible due to the unwillingness of Crash Test Dummies to actually ride one.

Yes legal in many states in 5th wheel.
My opinion - much much more chances of getting hurt in a four wheel car or motor cycle, bicycle and walking. Drivers behind the wheel of a car today on phone, texting, speeeeeeeeding, road rage!!
Again my opinion, riding in trailer is no more dangerous than everyday activities. We let our kids in school bus and many of the bus drivers break every rule on road.
We let ourselves ride on most crazy roller coasters.
But mention riding in back of 5th wheel and you are the BAD GUY

wow...i learn something new everyday, had no idea this was legal in any states, let alone almost half of the states, i do see the point of it being not much different than a motorhome, but to each his own....

We ride in the back of a 5th wheel trailer here in LA County Fire Department. There is actually enough seats that we could ride in the tractor portion of the rig but we prefer the Trailer. I don't see what the problem is...
